Is it best to pop a bit of grease on the bolts or thread lock ?

Cheers

I tend to go for a little bit of threadlock, just to make sure they stay put.

No need for either, just buy the right tool and they won't come undone.

Never do up bolts dry - threadlock or grease. for me grease on chainring bolts - I have never known one come undone
