Hey,

I have just purchased a hope headset and was wondering how to fit it? I have cleaned up my old headset before, but the hope headset is just different.

Do I need some specialist tools?

Just wondering if its a job I can do myself or best to take to a bike shop? No point spending a fortune on a load of tools.

Cheers

Rob

Main tool you need is the headset press to fit the cups. You could make one yourself they're not difficult. Or you could use the gentle tapping with a hammer. Going one step further you could get the headtube faced to make sure the bearings are parallel - I had one bike done and it was smoother but it's not important that you do it.

This is also a great way to permanently knacker your frame; either make a press, or buy one (rudimentary headset press is like £30), it's well worth having if you are going to do this more than once (it takes 3min to fit the headset with a press).

Does the job just fine if you're careful (and actually usually even if you're not).

But you can easily make a press with some threaded rod (M10 size) and matching nuts and washers.

If you'd bought the headset from the LBS in the first place they may well have fitted it for you.
