just attempted to fit my mates new headset, all going swimmingly and i thought to good to be true, i hit a snag right at the end....
fitting the hed doctor, the forks are new and i couldnt get the hed doctor to go in the steerer tube, i gave it a gentle wallop with a wooden mallett and it budged it in a tad, probably about 1/2 a cm in the tube not a full 1cm as recommended.....but then it wouldnt budge at all, so i had to leave it there....it all feels secure, but have i missed something obvious? the video on hopes site the hed doctor just glides in...should i have lubed up the inside of the tube?
and obviously now if he needs to get it out again?
any thoughts appreciated 🙂

that fact its in and probably 0.5CM in is that enough? the hope video says about 1CM depth before tightening?

Remove the rubber O ring and it should slip in a lot easier, I've done this on two bikes and it works a treat.
i think it sliced most of that when it was going in to be honest, i suddenly had a thin slice of black seal in my hand 😆
how would i get it out again now though?? even when i undid the 8mm allen key and made it unclamped it wouldnt budge?
Don't do what I did and use a metal pole from the bottom to hammer it out, I funked up the head doctor and my steerer WHOOPS.
I had a pain getting mine in first time round however the replacement just dropped right in.
Has the steerer been cut? The HD should slide right in without any resistance. The usual problems:not having the HD opened out far enough; no grease on the o-ring; misshaping of the steerer from being cut.
think he's sorted it now, says he just got a thin piece of solid wood and hammered it on top of the hed doctor in the tube 😆 its now easily 1cm in, it suddenly started to move with a few hits 🙂 happy days and my conscience is guilt free 🙂 phewwww! just hope he tightened it up enough now 😆
