Hey, I'm am going on my first trip to the alps this August and was wondering if people who have been could tell me what kit is best to take out there, from their experience as I am not really sure what to take apart from body amour and a full face helmet.

Cheers all

This has been covered loads of times before, a search of the forum should give you a lot of good advice. My tuppence-worth is to use bigger rotors, fatter Tyres and buy spares in the UK before the trip because the prices can be eyewaterribly high. Have fun!

Take plenty of suspension, the braking bumps are serious

Take sunscreen and a good waterproof

My 1st trip I had a 4" travel bike, no full-face or body armour. Still had a blast. If you've got an exotic/rare bike/components try and get things like spare hanger/brake pads etc...and don't leave your kahoona's at home 😉

hire a guide?
Best way to get the best bits sorted and the lay of the land if you don't want to spend all day on the main DH runs. Done early in the week and you should benefit from the knowledge later on.

Where are you staying? Our hosts where super helpful pointed us in the right direction for the type of trail we asked for, with basic/no map skills you can find your way round the area easily.

I first went out on a 100mm ht and had a blast you will be fine - Spare pads spare mech hanger , sudocream , Thicker grips.. and get some forearm workouts started now if you have a spare mech take it . if not buy one cheep on here ..

Guides are expensive unless you can split with a group but are a great way to get your bearings and explore early on in the holiday without thinking to much .. or you will just end up staying in resort.

If you dont want a guide or price wise it doesnt work follow the PPDS VVT route and explore early on in the holiday

http://www.ride-ability.com/ good guide i have had before - ask for quentin

Regardless of all this you will come back a changed man - its great out there dont think to much and just go and enjoy you will come back grinning

@danstw - we used Lionell from MCF the official French school, he was excellent and others on here found him likewsie. I would also do lots of research about routes etc on here as there is so much more riding that just the marked bike park trails
