Note to self when riding with a dropper post that has quite a ferocious return…

What dropper? You might be able to adjust the return speed by lowering the air pressure in the cartridge.

Command Posts do need some 'Getting used to...." but I never suffered any painful incidents when I had one fitted to my bike...
Used to put a jelly baby on my compressed Command Post then press the release and see how high I could get it into orbit
I did something similar when I had mine in use - it usually got fairly high.... 🙂

I started out with GravityDroppers, which required you to weight the saddle before raising it, so it couldn't slam you in the balls. I used a Reverb for a couple of years (until it did the bizarre exploding circlip trick) and never had a problem with it, then switched to BrandX, also no problems. I think the reason is that I always keep my arse on the saddle, so I still raise it exactly like raising a GravityDropper. Never understood why people had a problem with this, it's one of those things you should learn from after a single exposure.
However, if you want to really amuse yourself, try outfitting bikes with the lever on different sides of the bike. Cresting a climb ready to drop into a steep chute is not where you need to be fumbling around trying to remember which side the lever is on. I just fit them all on the RH side above the bars now because that's where my old GravityDropper lever was and that's where my reflexes tell my thumb to to when I start pointing downhill. Just figure out what works for you and stick with it, ignore what other people do.
I wish my dropper was this enthusiastic, it stopped returning to full height without assistance a while back. It's an OEM KS eThirty so either needs a rebuild or replacing.

Had a related issue the other day. Struggling up a steep hill, my left-hand thumb unconsciously found it's way to the front-derailleur shifter to get in the granny ring. Except I don't have a front derailleur anymore, just the dropper. Cue stall, rolling back and me off the bike.

E-13 TRS+... That's not a dropper, that's an ejector seat. I think Martin Baker have had a hand in the design.

I'm pretty new to droppers but this is how I operate mine (Brand X Ascend). The bike tech who did my post-delivery check on my Sentier (there were so many things clearly missed in the pre-delivery check!) cautioned me about letting it fly up unweighted. Reckoned using it like that would cuse premature wear.
You can fire things through the air with a gravity dropper, it's great. Except when it's your testicles that are getting fired.

Not heard that before. Maybe it was just an opinion? I use the "clunk" sound to know mine's at full height and I'm safe to sit.

My old mk1 RSP Plummet with the big spring in it could have launched your nuts into orbit of the earth if you weren’t careful with it.
I think that's my old 30.9 post *waves* - hope you like it other than the return speed. It wasn't that quick compared to a Command Post I have, which always makes me grateful I don't intend to have any more offspring...
Two ways of slowing it: less air, or a smidge more grease. I serviced it before I put it on the 'bay the other week, so you could always put a smidge more Castrol XHP222 in if dropping the air pressure doesn't help. It's the grease Hope uses on its hubs, and it's fab stuff, so well worth the £6ish for a 500gm tub.
