Hi, i am getting a new set of wheels with UST rims (Hope 2/Mavic819) and am about to make my first foray into the world of tubeless.

Having read many threads on the whole tubeless issue, I think I will be running with sealant, as I live in a thorny area.

I don't want to have to use a tubeless kit, so do I need to use UST tyres, or will tubeless ready be ok?

Tubeless ready with sealant will be fine.

You'll probably have to run tubeless ready with similar psi to normal tyres. The beauty of UST is that it's possible to go 10-30% lower pressure = loads more grip and to a certain extent more speed. UST is much heavier and much more expensive though.

Set up my conti x king protections with stans sealant - after a couple of days sloshing sealant around the sidewalls have sealed up nicely!!! Just ordered some MKII protections too, so will run both bikes with x king rear/MKII front.

I run tubless wheels ( both crossmax) on both my bikes, with Stans no tubes. I can't remember the last time I had a puncture

On 819's you can pretty much get any (new) tyre tubeless, just with a cup (50ml) of Stans latex (and a valve).

Bontrager tubeless ready's are good, plus any UST tyre will work (as the rims are designed for them).

And any tyre will run a low pressure, just be careful of wider tyres 'rolling'.

No you won't, no tube means you'll get away with lower pressure.

I'd go with sommat tubeless ready (Schwalbe are my choice) with a splash of sealant.

I can run my tubed tyres at a low enough pressure that they start to squirm and roll - why would you want to go lower?
