First Time at Afan this weekend staying at Bryn Teg Cottages with a few pals

What are the conditions like at the moment I am thinking of going 2.35 ST high roller up front and a 2.25 Ralph at the back

I can Pair either of the above and they will be coming with but any thoughts welcome

Also anything closed looking at W2 on sat and Skyline on Sunday

Advice hints tips very welcome !

It's a trail centre. Any tyres will be fine.

Definitely take some tyres, yeah.

Any will do, you'll love W2 - it's great.

I'd recommend some round black ones. Different coloured ones may work, but I have no experience of that. Definitely round though.

The initial climb of the Wall is one of the few things that I'd happily exchange for a kick in the balls.

Will be there on Saturday riding W2 with a few friends.

There's no steep sections, and it's not long, why do people seem to moan about it all the time?

You need to do some trails with proper climbing - you can do the whole climb in the middle ring, it's not even challenging technically.

I'll be an Afan first-timer on saturday too. Really looking forward to it, except that I'll be the slow old bloke on the Trance, with a much younger fitter bloke on his lighter quicker bike. Can't wait !

I reckon you're right. you def want a good rolling tyre on the back as it's a fairly big hill to ride up. Not sure about RRs for grip on wet rock - may well be fine but/so I'd have the HR on the front

(I was the token slow old bloke on a trance last weekend - carry the torch proudly ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Being more helpful you want 2.25's , it gets we but never muddy so i wouldnt take mud tyres. Nothing too skinny either. I ride with maxis ardents and advantages 2.25s there and im a local!

Mafu 26 crossbike .?. Are you insane? possible yes but you will be sore!

Run what you brung, it'll be fine on anything.

The climb on the Wall is just so ridiculously dull. Better now you don't have to go right down the valley to cross the river, but I'd far rather do a nasty steep climb than plod up a gradual fireroad.

My only advice would be don't drink yourself totally senseless in the weatherspoons in port talbot, this way you may not have throw up your breakfast before even leaving the B&B or be sick 3 times in Afan forest, and you might not feel so ill that you actually think you may have done yourself permanent damage ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I only change tyres cos of conditions tbh, never cos of location, go with what you know is what I'm trying to say

Weather forecast is good boyos!

Enjoy.

Once you've tabbed up the left side of the Valley for a few K's then start the climb proper, go through the 1st bit of single track, then stay on that fire road until you get to Piccadilly. Once there you can go right and do W2 or left for a blast back down the Wall.... it's running really fast at the moment!!

I've done Afan & Cwmcarn on many different tyres & they all worked well with the exception of a Crossmark on the rear @ CC - slipped & span on every root/slick rock it went near.

I know it's not hard - either fitness or technically - it's just sooooooo grating.

I'll be on a rigid, white Handjob.

Was a cracking day. Weather was excellent - although there was a frost first thing.

W2 was great. Did the 'Black Run' at the top of White's climb twice and walked up most of the Wall climb with both my quads cramping like a techopop record.

The rigid HJ was excellent, if a little battering. Truth be told I think I need some steel forks on it. Carbon forks and a seemingly increasing need to launch the bike off things may not be a durable combination.
