Do you need erc membership to ride this? I fancy giving it a go.

The club TT now operates under CTT regs (there has been a mass movement among Scottish clubs to CTT for running time trials because of various problems with levies and insurance when operating under the old SC/BC arrangement). This means that the TT is open to ERC members and members of other clubs who are affiliated to CTT:

I'm not a member of the erc although may join. I am a member of Kinross cc however..

Did my second ever tt tonight with Kinross actually, hilly 12 miler with 1500 foot of climbing. Came 3rd...far more suited to my strengths than yesterday's flat effort, although both were enjoyable.

you should improve a bit 2nd time.

2nd attempt tonight, 23:36 so a fair chunk faster in less favourable conditions.

Felt more comfortable on the bike, power was up by nearly 20 watts and Pacing was much better. Managed a perfect split of 280 watts on the outward half, and 280 watts back in.

Pretty happy given its only my 2nd tt.

Nice one tpbiker - took me a couple of years to get to 23s so maybe you're built for testing. Are you going to keep doing them? Should try a 25 if you can.

I was out last night as well. Not turned a pedal in anger for about a month with work commitments and a cold etc, firing in to the ale and pies - rode to the start feeling about as fast as a baked potato. Only went and did a 22.42, which is a local pb for me. Strange how it goes some times. Must have been a fast night - bit of a headwind out, talewind back, which is how I like it.

Also managed to ride out a puncture, praise be to the testing Gods. Just after the turn heard a wooshing noised from the rear and my heart sank as I knew I was going well - tubeless at the back though and it sealed. Checked it at the end and it was 35psi! So just shows the bollox of fussing over tyre pressures that most of us do.

I think it would take a fair bit more effort get under 23 min! Not sure I'm built for testing, I'm more of a climber and my power ain't great but I'm light.

But I've always been very good at pacing longish climbs and I seem to be able to do that on the flat as well.

Well done on the pb. What kind of power did you need for that?

It was 325 last night - which is next to nowt really as I'm 100 kg. Actually the lowest for me this year on that course, was doing 360 earlier and going slower.

I'm on the reserve list for a ten at Levens at the weekend - very fast course if the winds blow true. That's a good course for seeing what your max 20 min power looks like in position - smooth dual carriageway that you can just sit and tap out the watts steady.

I can only dream of 325 watts. Chap last night said he averaged 380 and was only 30 seconds quicker than me. He said he was over 90 kg, but surely weight ain't such a big deal in a flat tt? Sure you'll be a bit less aero, but surely not that much? And it's not as if I'm particularly slippery. My tt bike is an old second hand px stealth from years ago, I'm not particularly flexible so my front end is fairly high, and I don't have a skin suit.

They are quite good fun though, good way to get into racing without having to worry about been taken out by a crash in front of you.

Yeah that does sound a bit strange - if he's doing 100 W more then you'd expect him to be ahead of you by more than 30 secs, as presumably his position would be at least reasonable. It's very course dependent, though - if it's flattish but with a lot of small gradations then that can be punishing for us fat lads.
Something pancake flat and smooth is where you'd expect to see raw power differences translate directly into speed.

Am tempted tonight but the choice of bike is commuter or 77" gear SS, and it might rain...
