A long time ago I remember reading of a method to find your best suspension settings by going to both extremes then halving or something depending on which you preferred, then doing it again and again . It's probably obvious but I can't think . Can someone remind me pls

thanks

Bill

Set the sag. 4 clicks of rebound. Go ride. Always worked for me.

Set sag I what ever you want then ride slowly off ย a kerb and adjust lsr so you're not bouncing up and down uncontrolled. Go ride and see what it's like and adjust as required.

If you have hsr turn that all the way in before setting lsr.

For low speed compression pedal along a fast section and adjust till the level pedal bob/low speed hits are to your liking.

Bracketing, I think that's what you are talking about.

Just Google "mtb suspension bracketing" and pick the source / manufacturer guide you like best 👍

Vorsprung did a Tuesday tech video about bracketing. If the forum was any better, I'd link to the video for you.

In my dim and distant motocross days it went like this, and I have always done this on my MTB and always ended up satisfied. I am fussy about suspension.

1) Set sag.
2) Then I always set compression first..Put it on half way to full open. eg 50% of compression damping with rebound fully open, as in no rebound.
3) Ride.
4) Does it feel stiff? Or soft?
If stiff go halfway between zero and where you are now.ย  If soft then go halfway between half way and full open.
5)Ride again.
If stiff, go back halfway between the last two settings, if soft, go forward etc
6) Repeat until happy.

Although with 12 clicks say, then you only need to go through this 3 times and you will have run out of options.. Eg start on six, too hard, so go to 3, too soft, then go to 4 or 5, job done.
Even with 20 its only 4 steps. 10, 5, then 7 or 8, then is it too soft? go to 8 or 9, too hard, 7 or 6.

Then do the same with rebound. Although I normally find that anything more than fully open is too much.

You might find after setting rebound that you might go back around the compression loop again as it may have affected it.

Given that you might want to go over the same bit of ground for repeatability, you may see a fitness boost also.
