after waiting some 4 months for my bike to work i picked up my orbea last weekend complete with free upgraded carbon rear end due to a whole one week delay! (original order for a bianchi was completely mishandled by Macdonald cycles in Edinburgh who i would recommend staying away from due to their "excellent" customer focus)

anyway - linlithgow, forth road bridge, kincardine bridge, skin flaps, grangemouth, boness and home. Full on 20mph (well felt like it) head wind made the outward journey a little tough. The bike felt v twitch at first but after 40+ miles it was an old friend.

I enjoyed this far too much i dont think there is any hope for me.

lets see a picture of this strange "bike of the road" that you speak of then!

welcome old boy. Picked up my first darkside in August, Planet X pro carbon, mainly as my daily commuter. I now try and use it everyday that i'm not on the MTB. This week alone, done a few hundred miles on it maybe more. Try for about 800-1000 miles a month on it. Took the A73, A70 into Edinburgh for first time other day and for about 10 miles you can put your head down and keep at a constant 25 mph, its that good. The A71 into a headwind for 35 miles on the other hand sucked big time. When the road allows you cant half shift on these things

radoggair - you want to come down this way for some roadie rides. Probably better road biki.g down here than there is mountain biking...

Today I did a hilly bastard of a 70 miler. Seemed like it was into a head wind all the way.

raddogair, I love the A70 heading westwards, especially the bit coming off the high point at the South Lanarkshire/ West Lothian Boundary just west of Tarbrax where feels like you can sit in the drops at 25+mph all the way to Balerno - even the rise by Harperigg Reservoir doesn't seem so bad with the gale behind you. Going the other way is never so good :0)

haribo - are you who I think you are, the lithgae connection and 48cm bike may be the giveaways ๐Ÿ™‚ Lots of good road riding to explore in Bathgate Alps and south towards Forth and Carnwath.

indeed Stu ๐Ÿ™‚

bathgate alps are next weekends ride (although the blairadam event will likely curtail the length of the route)

might ask you and Fi for some routes.
