Me and a mate are looking for a cheap epic next Saturday, and 130km of Fife Coastal path sounds quite good.

The wee Bike Scotland guide book talks it up pretty well, although it describes it Inverkiething to St Andrews, I was thinking about doing it the other way.

What's it like, worthwhile?

Good stuff, and singlespeeds as well Marty?

My mate has gears, and is robo-fit at the moment, not sure if the singlespeed would be a handy excuse for not keeping up or just senseless masochism...

my partner in crime had gears on, which is possibly he was OK when i bonked horribly* coming into kirkcaldy on the first attempt.

keep your eyes open coming through tentsmuir for singletrack distractions.

* took two cans of irn bru to get me the final 1/2 mile to the station...

Sanny rode it in a day recently, he had a monster tailwind.

Its a really long day. We tried it recently around easter and were soaked and frozen by the time we crossed the FRB. We turned around at Starbucks in Kirkcaldy. Previously we rode as far as St Andrews, got the bonk and caught the train home from Leuchars.

Moral - wait for the mother of all tailwinds and go for it.

It's quite a long way. Best of the riding is from Boarhills to Leven.

I've done Leuchars - Lower Largo, stayed overnight there then Lower Largo back to Livingston in a day in winter and that was reasonably hard work, especially the last bit home from the Forth Bridge).

Leven - Buckhaven is a bit manky and there's quite a long road stretch between Dysart and Burntisland (though a nice bit of offroad in the middle if I'm not muddling up the order too much).

The only bit that wasn't pretty much all rideable was from East Sands in St Andrews to Boarhills, that took an inordinate amount of time on our first attempt so we skipped it on the second go.

Definitely worthwhile, and definitely not to be underestimated!

There is a great wee stretch between Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy, I think you are forgetting

East Sands in St Andrews to Boarhills
is indeed a bit of a mare and v slow. I rode from St Andrews to Dalgety Bay last summer in a day easily but it was reasonably hard work. On the + side you can get access to shops along the way so you don't have to carry much. Is a nice ride in places, i'd go for it. Going that way means you have more train options should you go BANG horribly

A days riding...definately worth doing. You'll return home with a grin of accomplishment and a healthy appetite 🙂

There is some fun to be had in tentsmuir too.

Lots and lots of ticks in Tentsmuir as well though, so take a tick remover.
