On Monday night I cleaned my cassette* and chain properly for the first time in ages. Toothbrush, sink, fairy liquid and degreaser. I've now got a lovely sparkling drivetrain and a deep sense of satisfaction.

I also now think my bike will be about half a pound lighter

What's the next fettly job i should do to achieve a similar feeling and demonstrable results?

cleaning the scrudge off jockey wheels is my favourite. Bikes come in for servicing that have had 'gulf of mexico' lubrication[1], you can use a small screwdriver and peel off a whole circle of grot. ๐Ÿ˜€

[1]apply oil repeatedly without cleaning off excess, for a few years

I replaced a gear cable last night after discovering it was starting to fray; on this morning's commute the hills were just as hard and the journey was no quicker. I shouldn't have bothered... ๐Ÿ™‚
