Our recent conversation on the subject.

Overview

We, that is my children and wife (never pressurised to conform), thoroughly enjoy trail centre visits; they are great for many reasons (esp. maintaining interest for 7yr olds). After many visits, my wife (note my wife, not me) states…"perhaps we should get a van, it’d be ideal to put the bikes and tent in and just drive off on camping etc hols”…

Great idea says I.

"I’ll look for a few but a decent one will cost approximately 10 to 12 k. (I’m not 18 anymore, and I’d prefer not looking like a group of ‘no fixed abode’ types)"

…."fine, no problem" says she…."we have 15k to play with”…."we can enjoy the freedom and fun it’ll bring”.

"Great", says I.

After researching and finding vast swathes of VW’s, Vitos etc in our price range - bear in mind her original project criterion of a huge 6man tent (‘tis what we have), 4 bikes, 4 people and their bags - this it what I get as I scroll through the images on Autotrader….

“No…..no too expensive (12k)…no….hideous colour….no…too expensive (8k)…no….no…no….….oh I’m going to IKEA to buy a new sofa on Sat, will you come along as I can't lift it…….(continues to look on, getting bored now though) no, no …to expensive…too far away no..no...no...etc etc.

Finally, she proclaims....“What about one of those VW Caddys”?

F*ck me, thinks I!

“Oh look darling”, says I. "I’ve found the moon on a ‘fair-trade’ stick, it’s a bargain at 5p".

I simply give up!

You're not allone!

My missus suggest things like going to watch a welsh DH race as one of her coleagues is raceing in it and it'd be interesting for me. I suggest she come's and watches me race and it was a none starter.

She suggests things like her going on a skills course in the Peak District, then looks at me like I've just shot a kitten and wiped my arse with it's bloody remains when I suggest going for a ride at Swinley (not a place reowned for its techy challanges or hills).

She tells me I should sell the MG and get a sensible car, so I comprimised and bought a 2nd car (3rd if you count hers). She still thinks I should sell the MG, but she want's to buy a convertible........
