Hello all....help on an all too familiar 'what should I get' conundrum please!

I've had the go ahead to grab a Cycle To Work Scheme bargain, now comes the headache of what to spend my tax free dollars on. I'm set on owning something carbon framed as well.

Have been looking through all sorts in the last few days but at the moment it's a straight up fight between the Dolan Mythos with SRAM Rival and optional Mavic Aksiums (£1,120) or the Felt F5 with 105 (on offer at Wiggle for £1072). The Dolan seems to have a good following but the Felt seems to have a very well respected frame for the money that appears on much higher spec bikes.

Usage for me will be supplemental riding to help general fitness for my main sport of open water swimming, summer season commuting (MTB hack to stay for the winter months) and the odd Triathlon.

Have also considered Planet X SL pro Carbon but the comparative spec available for the price is not as good. There is also the KHS Flite 500 AK, not technically full Carbon but very good reviews, but there is no UK stock at the moment either with no real promise on when it will be available again.

Help please before I spend several more tortuous hours trawling the internet !!!

🙂

Dolan wont let you spend over the £1k limit (well they wouldn't let me!) so you may struggle. I rang them and they refused to let me add money to the £1k limit. of course if you're employer has the credit license thingy to have more value on the CTW voucher then you'll be fine. In the end I got my bike from PedalOn ; a Cannondale Super Six for £1200. I just paid the £200 difference myself. Anyway, cant help on the inns and outs of your 2 choices but just a word of caution re Dolan.

How did you wangle that? Cyclescheme say you can't top up because then the ownership of the bike is not clear-cut. Is it something you can negotiate with PedalOn?

Thanks for the responses. I have posted this up elsewhere and have had some less than good reviews on the quality of the Dolan service and even the quality of the frame and it's performance...so if they dont accept over payments I think it;s slowly leaning me towards the Felt.

Will check out what Pedal On have to offer, Cannondale Synapse was something I'd considered as well so if they let you pay over it does give a few options.

I can't offer any direct comparisons of the two, but I bought a Felt F4 recently, and I'm loving it!

To add to NickBs comments. I have a Felt F3 and it's ace.

Cheers guys...have had similar positive responses on other forums. I'll be trying to find an F5 to try over the weekend to see if it fits 🙂
