[#12531159]

Need a new set for new bike.

Had Raceface ones before that are dirt cheap but thought I would see what else is decent. Don’t mind spending a bit more if they are decent.

Bontrager line elite seem to have good reviews. As do Chesters. Any of the DMR composite ones any good?

Can't fault the nukeproofs for toughness, longevity, and the pins grip well and are easily changed.

I have a set of the dmr composite and the burgtec ones. The burgtec are definitely more grippy but at the cost of ripping the soles of my five tens very quickly. I can't tell the difference between vaults and the dmr composite both very good and I'm not sure I would bother going back to metal

I'm using some Kona Composite Wah Wah pedals. Very pleased so far.

Burgtec from Go Outdoors. It's the first time I've changed pedals and not gone crawling back to Vaults.

I really like the composite Kona Wah Wahs but I've broken a pedal and so has a mate, got mine replaced under warranty.

After two sets of Burgtecs I much prefer the Deity Deftrap. Grippier and the axles are less prone to bending..

Deity Deftrap Look good too. Lots of choice! Burgtec and Deity look like top runners for me.

Nukeproof here. Got them on my four bikes (hybrid commuter, dirt jumper, hardtail and fs). I'm about 86kg without my kit, and I'm not the most subtle rider. They've taken a fair beating in Wharncliffe and survived with no issues. They are really easy to service. Can't fault them.

Nukeproofs very hard to beat for the price. I do like my One Ups on the fancy bike though.

Burgtecs for me, used them for years prefer them to the Burgtec mk5 alloy pedals on the hardtail TBH!

I've got a few on various bikes. The deity and burgtec are my preferred. Got the nukeproofs, too, but they haven't lasted as well and aren't actually flat. They are fine, but the burgtecs and deitys are better imo.

Nukeproof are good. Replaced mine with one up which have a nicer platform and more grip.

I use nukeproof, but tried some burgetec ones on a hire bike recently and think I preferred them.

Shanmashi CVO. Cheap, colurful and big, like Kona Wah Wah 2. I haven't been exposing them to constant UK grade rain and mud, but they've been through some tropical downpours and they survived with no bearing issues. Survived a fair few strikes on steps/rocks that cheap composites didn't.

I've had Nukeproof, DMR and Burgtec and so far Burgtec are the winners. It is pretty marginal though, they've all been good.

My Nukeproofs started to come loose and slide off the axles a couple of times. I’ve just switched to Burgtecs for the gravel bike.

Got a pair of Burgtec and Nukeproofs, very little in it but prefer the Nukes and they’re just over half the price when you catch them on sale at CRC.

I’ll not be buying another set of expensive metal pedals again when these are so good.

This! Much prefer my Deftraps to my Burgtec composites. Lower profile, larger, and much grippier.

Same, don't see the point in metal pedals anymore when composite are lighter, just as grippy (if not more), more comfortable and just as robust.

£25 FWE ones from Evans - I've got Burgtec as well & couldn't tell the difference when riding tbh. The FWEs are slightly bigger.

OneUp. Mine are lasting far longer than my DMR alu pedals did.

I loved the old Nukeproof Horizon Comp, but they discontinued it because it was better than the much more expensive metal ones so nobody bought them. Never found anything i liked as much til I tried some cheap "thinkrider" pedals from aliexpress, which have a very similar platform shape. They're not clones- there's a few differences like all the pins being metal, and the bearings are different, but underfoot they feel the same and they cost me £9.

(the Defftrap looks to be a close relative too? Very very similiar pins and profile, with a different cage shape)

IMO the Neutron Evo is rubbish in comparison, nothing like as much grip. I didn't think much of the Oneups either. Burgtec are decent but felt chunky

@Northwind
How long have you had those thinkrider pedals?

Few months now. Can't say I've tested them thoroughly but they did a week's uplifts in Wales, couple of days at fort william, and enough local rides that I can say they're not junk. If I needed another pair of flats today I'm pretty sure I'd get them, or maybe I'd try defftraps.

(although I guess I should add that I am 10 stone! So probably some riders will test them as much just riding to the shops as I did on the world cup)

It also depends on if you want concave pedals or thinner ones with an uncomfortable axle bump in the middle.

Diety are the best compromise I’ve seen there. Thinner than the (old) Nukeproof Comps mentioned above, but concave and not so thin that there’s a lump

Unhappy Nukeproof Neutron user here. Beat them enough to bend the axles slightly and they start fall off during rides.
Have Shimano XT (large) now but don’t really like them either, medium size might have been better as they seem too wide.

Have just ordered the Dmr V11's for £30 (45% off) from Chain Reaction. Love the concave feel of my Vaults and V12's so I'm sure they're going to be a winner. Black with bronze pins so look nice too.

I've had a few decent rides on the V11s now, got them very cheap a while ago and was a plastic pedal sceptic.

They're really good with a nice shape, good support and just the right size for my size 10 Five Tens.

Would buy again at £30 (if I hadn't got a couple more in my spares box).

One Up Components - lots of colours, lots of replaceable pins, seem to last a long time. I’ve got a few.

Oneups are the best I've used, will probably get another set next (shouldn't of sold the last ones when I sold the bike they were on!)
But the nukeproof are less than half the price (if you don't care about colour/keep an eye out) and work suprisingly well. My first pair lasted about 500 miles before they seized though.
