Hi guys

I'm after a set of tyres that I can stick on my hardtail to ride to and from work so would like something fast rolling etc, but at the same time if I dive off the road and onto some trails on the way home I won't be completely punished and start slipping everywhere. Was thinking Conti X Kings? Conti Mountain Kings? Any recommendations?

Thanks

Specialized "fast track" would be my weapon of choice - summer tyres really and will slide around aplenty this time of year but adds to the fun. Contis would be fine if youre planning more off-road time...

Fast trak, mmm/ I got on OK with mine as a racy xc tyre but they were pretty limiting (did a quick mid-race swap of a front one because it was stopping me using a lot of overtaking lines safely)

Kenda Slant 6 is a decent rear tyre- not the fastest on road and definitely not the grippiest on mud, but the tread's so open that they don't clog up at all unlike many small-knobble tyres. Not that much slower than the (excellent) smallblock 8 but works better in more circumstances. My summer favourite for the rear and a total liability on the front ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not sure for front tbh. Nobby Nics would do it pretty well, for the several hours they lasted before they were bald.

Specialized Fast Track 1.9 rear
Conti Mountain King 2.2 front

on my hardtail.

DMR moto or Maxis Holly Roller. surpisingly OK on dirt, but not mud.
MK nice but might wear fast with lots of road, mind you it would end up as a centre slick with big knobs on the edge ...could be good!

Maxxis Larsen TT. Think they come in 3 or 4 different widths depending on your preference as well.

Schwalbe Smart Sam seem to last forever. Not too bad off road either.

Used racing ralph and larsens for what you describe - both fine.

i think landcruisers are great on the cx, tough, a center ridge so fairly fast rolling and some edge grip, only downside is they are a bit heavy. not sure what the 26 versions are like, maybe something similar out there.

In the summer when things are pretty dry I've been using dmr moto RTs.

Given the recent weather I'm currently on continental mountain kings in 2.2.
