Whilst just getting ready to go out for a short spin Sunday evening ,having not even got out the bloody field where my shed is ,i managed to turn too fast and rolled front Tyre as it was low on pressure and fell off the bike like a sack of sh--e hitting the ground and wacking my right side of rib cage on the hard ground. Next i'm rolling to one side ,winded and sharp pain to mid rib , lay on ground for what seemed like 5 mins trying to catch my breath. When i eventually got up came to conclusion i'd bruised or fractured a rib .
Wednesday now and it's still bl--dy painful.

I did still go for a short spin Sunday night as the pain seemed to ease a bit ,but today if i stretch Christ does it hurt.

I came off after hitting a patch of ice at the end of last year and landed hard on the right side of my rib cage. Rib damage is pretty painful and can take 6-8 weeks to heal up; it'll probably be painful for some time to come. I had to stop riding for a while (but probably didn't leave it long enough)

In the end I did go to MIU but there's very little they can do. Obviously if there are any detectable steps or sharp edges in the ribs or coughing blood you'll need to get it looked at! MIU suggested that I'd torn the cartilaginous tissues the ribs are set in (I was getting strange popping noises too).

I was recommended deep breathing exercises to help avoid the rig cage healing in a contracted position.

I feel for you, it's not nice and, as someone on here suggested to me, try not to catch a cough!

Yep, fell off last September and had sore ribs and troubled sleep till December. Bloody painful sneezing as well.

I did a prat fall at 0mph on the 2nd June. I broke 2 ribs and they still bloody hurt like hell.

Just outside my house I clipped in with the left leg, went to push myself forward with my right but no traction meant I basicalled toppled over on the left side and took an sti hood to the ribs.

Easy done

I cracked my sternum after a tree took a disliking to me, was off the bike and gym from February to April/May time. Thankfully at 21 I still heal fairly quickly...

I generally avoid internet medical sites due to dodgy quality, but NHS Choices seems pretty sound, they have a useful rib injury page.

Ribs are a bastard. Pro tip- sleep sitting up, make a nest of pillows or an old duvet or whatever.

As northwind said: broken sleep doesn't help recovery, an armchair and a duvet worked for me.

Sticky heat pads helped, I found.

DO NOT SNEEZE.

I neeed several stitches in my chin after riding over a thick twig at low speed. It cantilevered into my spokes, hit the front forks and then huge faceplant onto fireroad.

I did almost the same thing 3-4 weeks ago. Front wheel hit a branch on the ground at an angle. I went OTB into a very hard tree. Chin saved by the chin bar on the Super 2R, arm across my chest took most of the impact but forced it into my chest. Think I bruised a rib or 2 - was winded for 5 mins, but not too bad after that.

DO NOT SNEEZE.

Until I sneezed a few days later.
That hurt the most. I suspect my jaw would have had it not been for the full face - bought it last June and never used it without the chin bar.

Well nearly 4 wks on now and i can finally sleep back on my normal side.Did a 47k ride last wed with some strenuous climbs and tech bits and was sore after but recovered quick enough.
The most annoying/frustrating factor being i had collected the long awaited new bike (Anthem 3) and couldn't benefit from the time off work.

Was back to work sat night too with couple night shifts to ease me in .

Roll on the Glorious 12th now " DA COOLEY THRILLER" up in the COOLEY Mountains with 1500 metre of ascent .
First of 3 events planned for this year.

the fork on my rapide rl2 disc decided to snap inside the headtube on a trip along the canal towpath which resulted in a nice gravel rash on the head and my knee was pretty mashed up. 8 weeks on and my knee is still bothering me.

been there, similar thing on a trail up on Holmbury, something i've ridden many times before, caught the wheel at all of about 0.5mph, over handle bars awkwardly onto my back. Was in all sorts of pain, turned out i'd cracked my shoulder blade - 2 weeks before moving house! that screwed me up for about 8 weeks.
