Living near Edinburgh I have tended to ride Glentress quite a lot of late (proportionately). Got a bit bored of it and, regarding it as one of the best trail centres, I wasn't expecting much from this past weekend organised to ride Mabie, Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree.
Oh how wrong. Dalbeattie, while not the best, was soaked and the rain didn't stop all the way round (until sun in the car park). Some nice sections made all the more satisfying to finish due to the weather. On to Mabie and some more lovely, flowy trails in patchy sun. Hadn't expected to do both trails but glad we did.
Kirroughtree today; sun was out and, in stark contrast to yesterday, trails were dry and exposed forearms glistened in the sun. More to the point, I'd forgotten how good the trails at Kirroughtree are. Flowing singletrack galore with some nice rocky problems. What a place.
Like em or loathe em, there's a lot to be said for the 7stanes. Right now, I love em.
