Anyone with an Exposure Tracer R rear light have a fix for the spinning off centre that happens regularly on rides?
Looking on Google it’s a common issue, yet no one seems to have an answer.
Anyone?
thin strip of adhesive felt worked for me but that was with a Flare
A bit of self amalgamating tape around the seatpost works perfectly. It’s a poor design - the red pad almost acts as a lubricant!
Make sure the vertical rib in the rubber band is centred on the front of your seat post. The rubber is grippier than the light mount, so you need to get the band in the right place and then the light will end up in the right place.
I saw a neat solution on the WRT this year. P clip round the TraceR screwed into the rack boss at the top of the seat stay. Only down side is it needs a tool to undo.
Obviously i haven't got round to; measuring the TracerR diameter, choosing plastic or stainless and ordering the P clip or fitting and by the time I do it will be light nights again but I think it will be good on a number of my bike as it will clear any seat pack.
Thanks chaps, I’ve just put a Garmin cadence meter rubber strap round the bracket (sits inside the exposure rubber strap) and it appears a lot more secure - I’ll feed back how it works - although it’s just started hammering down here so not sure I’ll be going out!
I always thought it happened when the rubber band was not evenly stretched so it pulled itself round. Anyway, got the saddle mount so it’s out the way of mudguards now which works fine.
Using a different/longer band, I was able to attach mine to the back of my helmet on the seat post bracket.
Probably not the sleekest of looks, but it gave a good line of sight above car roof height.
(Also depends on the position of holes in the helmet)
Saddle rails bracket for me. Seatpost is ok as a secondary one for me.
Cheers!
I.
I've got a Saddle Rails one in the parts bin if you want it @four? Just listed a bulk of the standard mounts on the classifieds too at £7.50 each or £13.50 for a pair posted if you fancied one...
I seem to have fixed the problem with the rubber Garmin cadence mount. At the money Exposure are they shouldn’t have these niggles.
Years ago I think Exposure were head and shoulders above the ‘rest’ so justified the dough, now I’m not so sure - I’ve got a Joystick and also a Maxx-D and while they are good they are still not that much ‘better’ than the alternatives now - mounts are pretty crap too.
I'm looking at buying one of these but wondered about ease of transferring between bikes mtb/road/gravel. With the saddle mount is it possible/easy to remove the light unit to tfr to another bike with say the seatpost mount? Or is it a faff and you have to remove the saddle rail bracket as well? If you use a dropper do you still mount it on the seatpost?
I use one of these on my road bike and haven’t found rotation to be an issue, maybe cos it’s not getting bounced around off road. I can’t see how it’d work with a dropper if it was on the post.
I've been using mine on and off road for 5 years or so, and haven't found rotation to be an issue. As above, if you don't get the tension in the band even when you put it on, it'll rotate to even up the tension.
Not sure about the saddle mount - I couldn't get the saddle mount to fit my saddle/seatpost as there wasn't enough clearance behind the saddle.
I just stick it on the non-moving part of my dropper post. If I didn't have space there, I could probably get it around the seat tube on the frame.
I find it works better on the frame if you have enough space rather then the seat post.
You can also get a little plastic go pro mount clip for the trace which would work on saddle rail go pro mounts or on the front under a garmin if you have a combi outfront bracket.
