[#2435811]

Does anybody happen to have beam shots of the Diablo MK2 – one on High (full 900 lumens) and the other on Medium?

Or a comparison with the Diablo on Medium and the Joystick on High?
I can find loads of beam shots of the Diablo Mk2 on high but non on medium.....

I know the Diablo Mk2 on medium is around 300 lumens so the same as the Joystick on High. But I would expect the actual pool of light produced by both to be completely different.

As it’s done by 1 led on the joystick being driven at full power, compared to 3 on the Diablo being driven at less power. So with similar lumen output the pool of light on the Diablo set on medium should be more ‘floody’ but with less depth and the Joystick on high would be more focused with more depth. I’ve just never seen any beam shots to back up this thinking.

Hope that makes sense.

thought the other thread would have persuaded you to buy the Ayups ? 😆

If you are trying to decide between Diablo and Joystick it's worth going to a shop and trying them both on a helmet - there is IMO a noticeable weight difference. The beam pattern on the new Joystick is, as I said very very good compared to the old one.

lol - I wasn't having a go - it's hard to decide and I went through the same. I can't see the point of the Diablo's higher power if you are combining it with decent bar lights, and on high the run time is poor. My usual night ride is around 2.5 - 3 hrs of twisty natural forest stuff and the Hope 4/Joystick 5 combo is ideal, for me much less faff than the older Ayups and remote battery, although if you could handle the weight of the battery on the lid then the faff would be much less.

Joystick and helmet mnout £129 at Rutland too !

I bought a Diablo mark 2 from wiggle. It is over £200, and impressive, but a tad too heavy for a helmet light. I got another light to increase the width of lighting whilst on the trail; it's almost as good. It's an import, but I got it from a UK seller on Ebay. 'Solidmart' sell a pair for under £90, but they seem to have temporarily stopped the single ones for the moment. They are Aurora AK-P7s and last even longer than the D mk2 using those modified laptop batteries (18650). I wish I hadn't got the diablo now...I could have 1800 lumens for £110 less! 🙁

If all you'r night rides is between 2/3hrs, go for the joystick. I had the mk5 one (240lumen) and it was very good as a helmet light.

I swapped it for a diablo (mk2 900 lumen) though as quite a bit of my night riding is 1 to 2 hrs, and by cycling the diablo from high to medium, I am able to use this as a main light with the added benefit of a higher 900 lumen setting. For longer night rides I use the diablo on medium setting as a helmet light and a toro as my main light.

No shots but like dyls says, my night rides usually 1.5 hours. Cycling diablo between high and medium gets me home with the red light on. Medium plenty light for climbing etc and then full beam for downhill.

Have just this week invested in a piggyback battery enabling me to run at full for my whole ride. Works really well but to be honest not sure I need it.
