As thread title really. Considering some component replacements, mainly on road bike but also interested in MTB experiences. Got the usual 68mm BB on the road bike with Shimano 105 crank...works very well as we all know, but looking at getting Force AXS on the road bike (please no DI2 vs AXS debates...been there and made up my mind and I want AXS but BB is the only concern) and concerned about DUB BB's in the 68mm shell so interested in actual real world experiences (yes, I've seen the Hambini vids so know all the potential pitfalls). Also the MTB might get some long overdue attention which might include a new crank, though currently running the 'dreaded' GXP external BB in that and have and zero issues with it ever but maybe I've been lucky.

DUB kind of mimics the Shimano design with the way it manages the end float of the crank axel with the collar - similar to my current Hope crank which has worked very well for me, but I think bearing size seems to be in question due to larger diameter shaft.

Alternatively are there any aftermarket companies out there doing AXS flat top chain compatable chainrings that can be used with Shimano cranks? that could be the sweet spot solution. Done a google search and nothing came up.

Thanks.

We've supplied an enormous amount of bikes fitted with DUB BB's,and surprisingly for a Sram component, had virtually no issues with them.

Came as standard on a Canyon Lux I bought before first lockdown and used it all over summer absolutely fine. My only gripe is the 40NM the crank is suggested as being tightened to. I switched the direct mount crank it came with for a quarq PM & had to take it LBS to remove it. I've also had a GXP external as well that came standard with a SS Salsa El Mar and I never had a days issue with that either 🤷‍♂️ - I only switched as I had an old set of XTR cranks I converted to single ring.
FWIW AXS is amazing 👍

Thanks for replies. good to know that the horror stories the interweb seems to be good at reporting are probably the minority as usual. Never had an issue with GXP on my mountain bike but always assumed I was probably lucky based on the number of reports from other people slating that system.

But is it worth the £/€ plus vat plus import handling fee?

Is it not available in the U.K. - mine came with the bike but I would have to say yes it's so good. it's not just the shifting quality, its so easy to work with. I banged my rear mech racing at Gorrick so fitted a new put the derailleur back on re index with the app. Took about 15 mins max.

AXS sounds easy to fit vs di2 - but don’t you have a separate battery per component - so 4 batteries to charge for a typical front / rear mech and 2 sti’s?

One recharge battery for rear mech & a 2032 for shifter - its 1X on my Lux so no front mech.
