[#7205781]

a bastid annoying one that no matter what, you cant find the cause.
i have for the last month, proper creak creak creak every pedal stroke.
had the padals off, had the bb out, had the chainrings off and nipped back up, had the forks out, nipped every single bolt and nut up.
still bloody there.......until my bike fell over this morning, and ripped the old saddle that was on the bike, so i took the saddle off. when it was in my hand, i realised that the saddles rails were very thick, 10mm maybe.
i had been running this in my normal post and it appears to have been the culprit.......... ๐Ÿ˜ก

Yep. Stripped and greased everything in sight. Turned out to be rear hub bearings. Smooth as you like and no play but noisy!

Changed BB.
Serviced pedals.
Took chainrings off and good clean.
Serviced rear hub and free hub.
Serviced the front hub.
Serviced headset.
Cleaned saddle and rails.

The bloody thing still creaked when out of the saddle. Turns out my Mavic rim was cracked. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Systematically replaced every component on a bike (work).Eliminated them all.
It was the frame.....a hardtail frame!!!!

Yup, tried everything on my old RM ETSX:

BB,
Pedals,
Saddle,
Seatpost (bolts and insertion into the frame,
Hub bearings,
Cassette body,
QR,

Culminating with the replacement of ALL pivot/linkage and shock bearings and bushings...

...there was a sliver of stone trapped between the flats of two bladed spokes.

Mid way through my creak quest at the moment. Replaced the main pivot bearings a few weeks back and thought that was it because the rear triangle was waggling side to side under load, but it was still there. Found that one of the rear bushings now has a tiny bit of play that won't go away, even with new bushes fitted so made up a tiny spacer which seems to have got rid of the play, but haven't had a chance to do more than a pedal up the road yet. That seemed quiet, but only time will tell...

My Cannondale F29 is driving me funking nuts. From day one it has creaked. Changed seatpost, saddle, bars, BB30 bearings a dozen times, checked headset bearings ( again tonight) changed chain, cassette, regreased rear hub 6 or 7 times, been back to Cannondale importers once, stopped creaking for a week. Then its been back, greased pedal bearings and the LBS who gave up and sent it to Windwave, fitted endura BB bearings too. They lasted 200 miles before grumbling on the non drive side. I am at my total wits end with this piece of shit bike. I believe the creaking is the stupid BB30 bearing against the crank spindle. I mean what **** decided a metal axle would run fine under pressure against a metal bearing race ? My scandal had a Hope BB in it. Bearings were fine, but made the similar crack and creak under pressure. So, binned it and fitted an XT one and my commute is now in total silence.
I have had the Cannondale 6 months now and in 25 years of mtb riding, never experienced this kind of crap design and creaking in any bike and on the point of wanting to reject it, however lovely the lefty fork works I am at my wits end now.

was an annoying click for me the other day
eventually tried to diagnose brakes, hubs, freehub, spokes, gears, everything.
eventually turned out to be a stone stuck between 2 side knobs of the highrollers hitting and scratching the chainstay.

Have a weird one on my Charge Cooker. I'm hoping the bottom bracket swap on Sunday has resolved it.

Pretty much every noise I have ever had on a bike has been the saddle or seatpost.

Yep, me currently on my new road bike.

I've systematically replaced or tried everything and narrowed it down to 2 things:
1. The headset, the bearings sit directly in the frame and are not the snuggest of fits, this creaks when you crank on the bars.
2. The press fit BB which seems to creak no matter what I do with it.

It fast appraising the point where I just don;t enjoy riding the bike so I may just get a new frame, one with a proper, screw in BB.

Unfortunately I'm fairly sure that's where my creak is!

Until it disntegrates and needs replacing I'm just putting up with it. The fact that it REALLY annoys my fastidious roadie friend is just a bonus.

My road bike has a persistent creak, worse in warm weather, from the bb area.

I've all but glued the BB in so I think it's the frame.

Years ago I had a persistent creak on my Commencal meta 5.5 that was coincident with the pedal stroke. I was convinced it was the BB for ages as that's where the creak seemed to be coming from. A new Hope BB didn't make any difference. I was at my wit's ends and then I read somewhere that one cause could be dry QR skewers. Yep, took em out and the rear one was dry as a bone. Bit of a clean up with some emery cloth, regreased and voila - problem solved!
Apparently, the drum-like nature of the BB tube means it can amplify creaks generated in other parts of the bike... dunno if that's BS or not?

I had a really annoying one recently and I replaced the bottom bracket even though it was running smooth. Turns out it was a cable tie rubbing on the cables I had used them on, under the stem, creaking as I was turning.

ever had a [s]creak on your[/s] silent bike?
would probably be a more apt question, lots of creaking at the moment. Can BB shell threads get a bit shagged and cause ext BBs to move/creak? Cups are done up pretty tight but still creak on heavy pedalling. C456 singlespeed just sounds awful but the drivechain is pretty shagged and I think it echoes/reverberates around the chunky carbon "tubes"
Yup, tried everything on my old RM ETSX:
I did most of that on my etsx, it was a crack in the seat tube ๐Ÿ˜‰

But yeah have had ominous creaks turn out to be cable rub or slightly loose QRs or something else daft.

Oh yeah and both my old RF deus posts, after several years of dutiful service, are starting to creak on fore/aft weight shifts ๐Ÿ™

Grrr,I've had a creak/clicky noise when pedalling, getting worse over last couple of days.I replaced bottom bracket and pedals, cleaned wheels and greased between spokes where they rub, checked cranks and regreased saddle rails. It got worse,so I checked everything again, still no joy,but it did sound like one of the wheels,so I decided put my other wheels on.When I took the through axle out of the rear it was a bit dry,so I greased it before putting the other wheel on.Click vanishes.Lightbulb slowly comes on in brain.I put the other wheels back on.Click definitely gone,2 days of faffing about for a bit of axle grease.I love fixing bikes,me.

done the same on my commuter....took every part off and gave a good clean and re-grease before fitting it all back together....still the noise was there....turned out to be a loose cleat on my shoe!

Been putting off finding the source of a clicking/creaking/cracking type noise, but last night's ride was infuriating. Seems to happen whilst pedaling or not and is not affected by being seated or not. Going to start with a forks, stem, bars removal clean and rebuild. Have heard Renthal Duo stems can creak so hoping it's that and a quick fix.

Had something similar a few weeks ago. Turned out to be frame bearings. Luckily they're easily to change on an orange with just a mallet, block of wood and a socket. Unfortunately the hearings on the GF's Covert also need changing and they're not as simple (and there's more of them). It started off just when pedal my and then deteriorated to all the time.

I've got an annoying creek in my 4 week old cube aim. I've got it down to either the saddle or seat post as it not there while standing to peddle up hill. It has a free service booked for next Thursday so I'm hoping it can be sorted then.

Apply liberal quantities of Finish Line wet lube to the area that the noise is vaguely coming from.

I did this with the creaking - coming from the headset area - on my Ibis Tranny.. Dribbled wet lube all over the headset - both cups, upside down - and around the head tube. Clean off excess dribbles.

Creaking stopped!

I have no idea where the noise is/was coming from, nor do I now care... ๐Ÿ˜€

The one that had me most baffled turned out to be the rear mech hanger - think I'd dismantled almost every part of the bike before removing, cleaning & refitting it. Over a year that creak had annoyed me to varying degrees. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

You could've eliminated it without removal (not that that removal is an arduous task) by wrapping the chain around the sprocket and front ring.

I revived this because I had a creak/click sound about a week or so before the birth of this thread and only found the culprit yesterday. As others have told, I stripped and rebuilt* everything to no avail.

It only ever seemed to sound with forward motion so assumed it was drive related but yesterday, with my hand wrapped around its [s]throat[/s] down tube/top tube area, I stepped and on the BB area with gusto. Lo and behold the bugger spoke up. It was coming from the down tube. Assuming a frame break I had the sudden realisation that in all these attempts I had bypassed an easy fix - the bottle cage or bolts holding it in place. Loosened, rode, click gone. Tightened and celebrated with a throaty yell of victory.

I shit you not, in the last few days of this, every time the click spoke out my left eye twitched a la Inspector Dreyfus.

At least the pre-winter service has been done...

* Twice!

My Rune is creaking like a mofo at the moment.

I've replaced the BB now as well as greasing the crank spindle and the chainring tabs as I've had creaks from there in the past. I've greased the fear through axle too. Hopefully that'll solve it. I'm sure it's drive related because it only happens when pedalling, particularly on climbs. If it still does it, I'll take the rear hub apart and regressed it.

Last resort is my pivot bearings which do look a bit manky after two years.
