[#10392860]

After all the threads about Ashley and his terrible mob I thought I better post up my experience.

I'd been saving Tesco vouchers for a year or more so was pissed when all the rumours started around Evans. See other threads for what happened but just posting this up to say thanks to the Leeds Central Evans for being great. I decided to go for a heavily discounted Cube Attain which arrived when they said it would, all the discounts were easily applied online and the actual collection, including trade in for a bike made of garage parts were easily applied.

The staff at the Leeds shop were great and spoke knowledgeably + sensibly without trying to patronise me as happens at other shops.

Note of caution though, they said the Tesco vouchers are ending in March so get them spent!

I think you got lucky. They've been nothing but useless for me, maybe the staff in that shop are reasonable but their customer service from the HQ is useless, always full of empty promises.

Not had to deal with HQ but I'm well chuffed with my purchase, all be it using pre Ashley promotions.

With all the doom and gloom I just wanted to give credit to a good bunch and spread a bit of positivity.

Bought two bikes and loads of bits from the Nottingham store, always been very happy with the service I've received.

Never had an issue with the Chill FactorE or the Chester store if I'm honest.

Totally agree. Leeds central store is great, and the staff are spot on.
Also the Castleford/Xscape store is the same.
Can’t fault the service or staff at either.
And will continue to use them despite mike ashley’s unfortunate involvement 😔

I have never had an issue with any store I use mainly Crawley, Castleford, adhoc Leeds & a few London stores I support them as much as I can.

"their customer service from the HQ is useless, always full of empty promises"

Maybe I got lucky but last summer I had an issue with a rear hub service as they broke the hub and gave it back to me without telling me. When I noticed it they tried and failed to source the part from Crank Brothers and after lots of apologies said I could have an entirely new set of wheels, whatever ones I wanted. I chanced my arm and asked for a set of Enve rims custom built onto Hope Pro 4 hubs. Which are now on my bike and didn't cost me a penny.

I know what Evans can be like but safe to say they went way beyond what I was expecting.

Just dropped some xmas beer off for the boys in Evans Kingston. There perseverance in resolving my Arkose leaking calliper - after three new callipers and numerous trips I was ready for giving up. The boys efforts were matched by the generosity of head office gift vouchers. Very happy customer let’s hope it continues in the New era.

Will keep an eye on the Tesco Clubcard/Evans thing, have bern saving pints up so will be sure to use them before the deal/connection ends!

My local branch is maybe the best bike shop in town, I recently took a wheel in with a cassette that my tools couldn't remove; mechanic had it undone in seconds and without any charge. Other bike shops in town might have sighed and done it ready for the next day and charged labour.

Popped into Liverpool today for a warranty job. Store well stocked with some nice bikes, friendly staff came over straight away, job was booked (new ebike motor from Bosch) in literally about 1 minute.
Hope it survives.

Got an email then a call from Evans this morning that my ebike was ready to pick up with a brand new motor fitted.
Less than 48 hours after dropping it off (without pre-booking). That includes getting the new motor posted from Bosch UK.
Outstanding service from Evans & Bosch.

The Kendal shop has been good, but as of last week is confirmed to be one of those closing. It's never been my regular store, but service has always been spot on when I have used it.

The Evans store in Havant is very good, the mechanic Andy is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Always goes out of his way to provide a top service.

Couple of the other guys who work there are also very decent chaps.

I hope the store remains open.

Is there a list of stores that are closing yet or is that still being decided? Tried googling but no joy. Hoping the Bristol one stays open as I tend to use that, Mud Dock and Cycle Republic for bike bits. Between them I usually find what I need in stock.

Yeah - the first 6 stores that are closing are listed here:

https://www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2018/12/6-evans-cycles-stores-first-wave-closures-sports-direct-mike-ashley/

Looks like the Braehead, Brentford, Durham, Fulham, Holborn and Kendal stores are all on the way out.

Wasn't Kendal the suspension centre?

Man alive that's a disaster for Braehead and the wider shopping centre. Evans had just moved to the flagship unit. Serious expansion and shop fitting! Bizarre......

As asked above, yes Kendall was the suspension centre. Wonder what the plans going forward for that are then

Evans Gatwick saved my bacon today after a trip to Halfords (only local shop open on Sunday) went the expected way - only wanted brake pads - when I asked for sram level T the response was ‘is that a disc brake?’ And ‘I can only give you then if I can see the original’. I politely declined as the original is very dead, and wasn’t with me, and went to Evans. They sorted me straight away. Nice to shop from people who have some idea what they are talking about!

Well Braehead was a disaster for all the local High Streets.
