Whaaat. I remember a special trip to visit their london shop in the 90s. Picked up a bike this week.

Recent years had turned into a bit of an upmarket Halfords, but that wasn't a bad thing. Lots of newbies uncomfortable ordering online trusted them.

The first line seems clear enough, to me.

But the context of the following lines suggest that it wasn't issued by Evans, as it refers to 'their affiliate program'

All a bit confusing, considering that they must have been doing a roaring trade for the past couple if months.

Nothing on their website.

Maybe it's the fault of the 5G towers?

Whaaat!

There's one round the corner from me and they're queuing out of the door most days, and I've got some items in the basket ready to go (not a lot but some)

In fact - what's this industry report because that screenshot isn't clear - if some proper info and given how Cashley tret those that had money in HoF I'm emptying it now. But an incorrect / misleading report that causes cancellations would be naughty in the current environment.

Tried resist them in favour of smaller independents, but the range of stock, prices and ultimately the good staff in the Edinburgh branch kept me going back.

So what's going on? CycleRepublic and now Evans?

Only Mike could make a national bike chain go bust when bikes have become very fashionable in the last ~8 weeks... Not surprised at all if this turns out to be true.

Unless their suppliers have tired of Mike's payment terms and have stopped supplying bikes, which we be kind of ironic given the booming sales

Lots of bike shops are doing well, no?

I guess they've been in trouble for a while.

I'm not actually seeing anything that says they're closing, that screenshot seems to be about an affiliate program. Come on @brads, what's your industry newsletter?

A search for "Evans cycles business news" brings up nothing, nor does the subsequent suggested search of "Is Evans Cycles closing down?".

My brother was at the Gatwick sorting office and he said the place was rammed with bikes being posted out.

’Evans Cycles will close on 30/7/20’ is pretty unambiguous. That or it’s a truly terribly worded email.

I hope this isn't true, I was planning on buying a road bike from them through C2W when the supply chain got back to normal.

Hey ho, I guess it will be an ebay bargain from one of the 'cyclists' that bought a bike for their one exercise a day and unfortunately decided it wasn't their thing.

I think there will be a lot of those in the coming months.

Someone will buy them if they have indeed gone under, there's value in there purely for the Pinnacle brand.

Have to admit I did wonder how they were doing when I was hunting for a front mech for a colleague's bike. Every other bike shop in town had nothing and couldn't get anything due to all the old bikes going through their workshops, shops were busy too. Evans had what I wanted and I was expecting a queue to get in but the place was dead with only 2 staff in. I wouldn't normally spend with them since Ashley took over but I was eyeing up one of their budget road bikes as a perfect turbo/occasional ride bike weeing as anything second hand is commanding near-new prices.

Crap for the staff if it is true, not a good time to be entering the job market.

As Evans are owned by a plc, any business closure like this is share price sensitive and has be done in accordance with certain rules, so if it's not in the news, it ain't happening.

the twitter thread that the screen shot comes from doesn't seem to know if it's the store(s) or the affiliate program.

Do you really think that they'd announce 10 weeks out a closing date?

And the first people to get that announcement would be members of the affiliate programme?

Their Facebook comments are ALL from very unhappy people. I know it’s exceptional times but they’re getting a kicking with very few replies.
That can sometimes be the tip of a broken iceberg when it comes to companies falling over.
But it seems strange to have been leaked in this way...

It is odd that Evans themselves were @‘d in that tweet but no response, at all, in the 8hours to now that it’s been up. And only 2 replies to the tweet, total. Shenanigans from a pissed off customer?

Used to pop in to the Crawley store when they were still a southern LBS. Had 3 Pinnacle bikes and a load of other stuff from the Nottingham store. It's only 10 minutes from the office, 2 minutes past Cycle Republic

Well, just in case it is true I have just spent my last £100 in tesco/evans vouchers that I have been hanging onto for over a year in the hope they would get some tools in that I actually wanted/needed.

Clearly BS as others have said.

You don't choose to go bust in the middle of July.

And as a plc, you can't use ****ter or Facebull to make a sensitive announcement.

Fake news.
