Am considering one of these as a year-round waterproof, but can anyone who's got one speak to its pack-ability when not needed?

I know Endura have a few other options including the lightweight MTR, but I'm drawn to the venting and pockets on the MT500. Seems a good option for the 'summer' weather I'm currently enjoying in Wales.

Cheers.

It's pretty bulky, you certainly won't get it in a jersey pocket! It fits fine in the external pocket on a Camelbak Hawg. Think about the volume of a normal MTB helmet and you won't be far wrong.

I took mine on the HT550 and I'm glad I did - bad weather hit on the Fisherfield crossing when I was at the highest point. Horizontal rain and strong winds aren't pleasant. I carried it in the harness on the front of the bike along with a bag of bivy kit.

I have one, it is not really packable. I also have an MTR Emergency Shell, which packs into a tiny roll.

I only use the MT500 when I am expecting to wear it all day.

Echo above. Not really packable. It's a lot of money for a jacket but I'm glad I have one, when you know it's going to be grim it's a trusty companion. I tested mine to extreme at TdBN last year and came back not soaked through.

Yeah, it's like a comfort blanket when you know it's going to be a wet ride.

+1

Have had many hard shells over the years and rate the MT500 as about the best.

It's a dam good jacket but comes up small. It can be packed in a bag but it's not me to be an emergency rainproof.

Thanks all - especially the pic from Tenfoot!

Looks like I might need both

I would seriously consider the Forclaz 400 from Decathlon,
Fully waterproof,Taped seems, big pit vents and large pockets plus a nice lined pocket inside which will take goggles,Plus at £60 its a complete bargain,
