wool fibres are harder & stiffer (even the finer merino) than a soft microfibre cleaning cloth so might scratch the lenses?

I can confidently back up what no-eyed-dear says, and I'm fairly sure that that was what Chipps was subtly trying to warn us about - If somebody does it at the side of you, it means they want to touch you where you wee. It's a minefield I tell thee!
