[#13536049]

On the back of the ditching the Lycra thread…. I tend to only ride road and gravel these days and don’t have much baggy kit left.

i bought some new decent Assos bib shorts the other day and was surprised at what used to be black or black now has many grey and burgundy and other colour options..

I went with black, though was tempted with burgundy…

Anything you like so long as it is not white or cream or pale brown.

Lycra is underrated as riding kit on the MTB.  If it's hot and you're doing XC / out in the hills / low crash risk stuff it's genuinely hard to find a better option IMO.

Add some crash landing potential my view might shift a bit.

Black...anything else and you need decent looking legs to pull the look off.

Why should us MAMILs be denied the interesting colours.

You chiselled whippets can't have the legs and the wardrobe!

All my bib shorts are black and I can confirm it's not like I/ we look good in black lycra anyway. 😂

Anything visible.

Neon pink jersey

Neon pink gilet

Luminous orange jersey.

Ideally all at the same time with flashing lights for maximum please notice me and don't hit me with your car distracted motorists vibes

But black shorts as I one rise behind a dude in white shorts after a rain storm. His shirts got quite see through 😱

I only own black bib shorts, but I'd buy silly colours if they were much cheaper. They're only ever underneath some baggy shorts in any case.

Not white or light grey. Or if you must, make sure to always ride at the back of the group.

I've seen lots of different coloured shorts that have looked good on other people but am yet to see any other than black that I like the look of for myself.

I have a couple of Gore bibshorts that are in fancy colours - red/white/black and silver/white/black (25th anniversary edition). in both cases the seat area is black 😉

Rapha started doing a range of coloured shorts and all their models naturally carry it off fine. I know that if I tried anything other than black (or possibly very dark blue), I'd look like I'd been set up for some horrific fashion dare or I was very colour blind!

I have blue (DHB) and khaki green (pearl izumi) ones that are both really nice.

Paired with a nice top that goes well together it all looks nice. You do have to start thinking about sock colour as well though.....

Sigma Sports have an offer on at the moment to buy an "outfit" for 20% off, they do various brands (MAAP, Castelli etc) who all offer colours other than black. MAAP have some shorts in a fetching shade of lilac / pale purple for example...

Black or dark blue bib shorts. But go for it on the top half... whatever you like the look of... pastels, logos, humour, etc 🙂

I have only Black, Dark Blue and Dark Grey. All the other light coloured bibs are for people who just jumped out of a 4x4 and pretend they just climbed a mountain pass.

I quite like the sound of khaki green tbh. Mostly mine are black or black or used to be black and are now a sort of sad, faded, dark grey.

There are some lycra bibshorts out there with dyneema (or similar) panels so you at least avoid the worst grazes from a crash.  No padding but better than just lycra itself.  Suspect black only though, maybe some Pro replicas if you're lucky in glaring sponsor-covered panels?

I have some Navy Blue Castelli Bibs I quite prefer to boring black, they go quite nicely with my green Galibier jersey (IMO).

But Yeah, I like a bit more bright colour on my lycra, strangely more of the available winter road kit seems to only come in black/dark colours...

No you don't. Socks need to be white on the road. No choice needed. Just very white white.

I only wear black bibs usually but do have dark green (for gravel...) and navy blue ones as they were on sale. Light coloured bibs can look good on Instagram cafe stops but not sure many real people can pull off the look, especially with sweat patches or when they're wearing thin through use...
