Have the parts, including tapered steerer fork. On one Ti 29er's have just failed CEN tests. Not going to be available until August earliest.
What frame instead? Lets not forget cost!

I was going to say Ragley but it wont be any good with the forks you have for the build.

Carbon 29er?

Nothing else seems to take a 29er tapered fork.

Ventana had tapered forks on a mod list for all their bikes this year. Don't think they do Ti though.

Just to waste an hour or two I tried the Crane Creek headset finder website to fit an 1 1/8th headset.
At this point patience would appear to be virtue!

Doesn't the Singular Pegasus now have a tapered headtube as an option?

ask them for a tapered head tube: http://vannicholas.com/24/Zion_29/bike.aspx

Lose out on the option of swap-outs though. Bit screwed really. Sell/return/swap the forks and headset?

This seems boutique and expensive. That Singular is the price of a Lynskey

Well you did say "Lets not forget cost!" ๐Ÿ˜€ I'd have a Pegasus over a Van Nic anyday. Bollocks to the cost.

The Zion 29 would make me happy for the next twenty . Might be bye bye forks time. This would lose me severals on the forks.

Buy a steel frame, get a tapered head tube welded on by Argos? Sell in August.

Is there not a Cannondale 29er hardtail? You could find that frame, and get a reducer headset.

Get a new csu off loco for your forks, they'll fit anything then and probably cost less than the hit of selling them on
Then take your pick of frames,

I think the new salsa might be coming with tapered headtube. If I were you I'd either wait or get O-O carbon. Or get a Canfield Yelli Screamy or Chumba HX2 from Si at Progressive.

It's not ti but a yeti big top has a tapered headtube.
Other options are find mire cash for lynskey or wait. Like someone said, first rule of bike building is start with a frame.

I have a shiny new unridden 2011 Giant XTC 29ER as an insurance replacement.Hence the forks.
I want to hang all the bits off a Ti frame with a lifetime warrenty and have at least one bike that I just ride and not change, repair, spend more time cleaning and maintaining than actually sat on.
Is this an unrealistic dream!

What's the point of a lifetime warranty? Long warrant's a con seeing as if you use it as intended it will show up any manufacturing defects pretty quickly, so if you snapped it in 10 years time you're just as reliant on the manufacturers goodwill as if it had the standard 1 year warranty. And 99% of people have probably sold their bikes on after ~5 years anyway so the manufacturer is relying on a combination of

"if it's going to fail it'll fail in a year"
"they'll sell it in ~5 years so we only have to budget for that"

These are good suggestions.
I refuse to ostracize or align myself with them that don't do gears.
Bald and fat is a sub group I already populate. Bald fat and SS is just too boutique!!!!!!!!!!

The Salsa ti frames do have a lifetime warranty.

All other Salsa frames have a 2 year warranty.

I found a good deal on the xtc2 not long ago, one could have bought it, parted and sold everything but the frame, kind of a hassle though.

The 2011 Lynskey Ridgeline has got to be a contender. 44mm headtube will accept tapered fork with the correct headset and if you get the SL version it has slider dropouts. And lifetime warranty for not too much money.

"What's the point of a lifetime warranty?"
I'm not sure, the shop I bought my frame from said its lifetime was probably up inside of 3 years old when the rocker link snapped. yet, the shock/brain have a 5 year warranty? Specialized replaced the rockers anyway so a non issue, for now ..
