[Closed] El Guapo/BFe as an all rounder? . . .

[#5106002]

Hi all,
I have come to realise that I only have the space for one bike and it will never be a £4000 uberbike.
I currently ride a 2008 Rockhopper and am looking to upgrade to something more capable, especially in regards to descending.
My riding is mainly Lakes based, but Hamsterly and local woods around Durham make do when time is short.
My bike needs to do my commute as well but seeing as it is under 4 miles, I guess I can do it on anything . . .

I have around £800 to spend on a frame. I already have a set of 2012 Fox 36 RLC TALAS, a pair of flows on pro2 evos and seatpost, bars and stem to use in the build.

I noticed that the EG with monarch is back in stock, and it is quite tempting. However would I be less 'overbiked' with a BFe when it comes to the commute and local blasts?
My main goal is to have a riot on Lakeland rides, but the other factors are always at the back of my mind.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Si

I've a BFe so am biased, it will do all that you want of it and probably more besides. You'll certainly have fun on it in The Lakes.

The only tiresome bit might be commuting on big tyres.

My BFe is a wonderful bike and if I was forced it would be the last I got rid of. Its the most fun bike I have ever ridden. The talas will suit it, I use the u-turn on mine a lot. I keep meaning to put my Lyriks on it just for a laugh but haven't got round trip to it but I suspect that it will be amazing on a rough dh.

Thanks for the reply I Ache,
I keep on thinking that if the BFe is enough, then I can afford straight off to put a reverb on.

I probably should say that I keep thinking about the EG to replace my fs and compliment the BFe.

The BFe is such a versatile frame you can't go wrong with it.

What Fs do you have? What way does it do what your BFe can't?

Just bought a BFe and think it's an awesome bike, but I'd always go for a FS if I only had one bike.

If I rode in the lakes all the time, I'd have a fs. If I rode woodland type trails most of the time, with the odd lakes type trip, I'd have a hardtail. IMO, obviously.

If that was aimed at me then I have an 06 Specialized Enduro. And it is smoother over really rough stuff so takes less of a toll on your body. Plus at the moment it means I can ride rough trails with my knackered ankle which I can't on my BFe.

enough with the "overbiked" crap if you want a frame that can truly do everything get the el guapo, if you want to be in with the cool kids get the bfe you can rattle down the rough stuff beating the shit out of your body safe in the knowledge that your a super awesome trail bad-ass 🙄

Thanks for the replies. I am leaning towards the EG now, but I have been informed that it is a stocktaking glitch and there is no stock - There is a waiting time of 8-10 weeks.. .

If I could only have one bike it would be a FS. Failing that, a HT 🙂

I ride a c456 & a Mega and I would take the Mega to the Lakes everytime.

Better still, you could sit on the sofa and eat pringles while watching Geordie Shore! You'd never have to worry about "beating the shit out of your body" or punctuation again!

I don't know about you, but i ride because i enjoy it. If i'm riding on rocks, i want to be bashed around! There's no point riding if you're going to make everything flat. If push came to shove, i'd keep my HT and sell the FS. This is, of course, opinion only.

To the OP - buy a 456 😉

Morning simon80. I'm based in Keswick and have a 2nd hand BFE frame if you want to take a look. It's medium, black; my email's in my profile.

I have a few bikes now to choose from and the one that puts the biggest smile on my face is the bfe, it just feels right.

Duffer you are the very "trail badass" type person to which i refer, suspension doesn't make things any easier it just enables you to ride things faster.
