[#623818]

Off to El Chorro next week for a family holiday.

Am hoping to get in a couple of rides.

Anybody recommend any routes or have any info on trails?

Cheers

There are some great rides around there, but not sure you would find them easily! My favourite starts at the Railway Station and climbs up the fireroad, then back down the singletrack in the trees.
Id reccommend seasonallyunadjusted.com for a days guiding, Jims a nice bloke or buy this book

Written by Jim at seasonally unadjusted.

Or get on a day guide ride.

Failing that, there are loads of routes to ride there. ask the locals if you speak a little Spanish. Some good road riding too.

Talk to Alan @ SierraCycling - they've got some routes round that way & you can maybe arrange to tag along on one of their rides

If you want a day of guided riding, Shaun and Czilla are ace, they are just north east of Granada (Monachil) so won't be far from there.

Thanks for all the advice/links.

My sisters friend who lives out there knows Jim and he was going to be my first choice but apparently he has moved on.

John at Blazing developed a lot of the trails with Jim and has continued to devolop them recently

Have emailed John and ordered book.

Roper - just something for a couple of hours max out of El Chorro or closeby, i.e. nothing too lengthy as it's primarily a family holiday and also it's likely to be hot and I don't do hot that well.

I assume it's going to be rocky, so shall I take some leg protection?

I have done a few routes from the book and it is nice there. Loads of other routes too.
It will be very rocky so might be worth some padding. A lot of the routes are quite exposed too so lots of high sun protection.

Another tip is to stick one of these next to your camelbak bladder for quite a few hours of cold drink.

If you go out on your own take phrase book as you might bump into a farmer for shepherd.

There are a couple of routes here, but to honest don't look very clear or helpful.

If you get stuck send me an email and I'll be able to get more info from a friend who tends to map where we ride and I should be able to get you something.

We are there most weeks. If you would like to join us for half a day or a full day get in touch. Do you need a bike?

Check us out on http://www.sierracycling.com .

You dont need leg protection in my opinion. The best rides are swoopy single track but you must do El Moabo Spains answer to Slick Rock
