I'll be sending her your way soon, believe it or not you're a bit of an inspiration to many on here for the riding you do.

Didn't you consider a Peleton indoor bike first?

A lot of my riding time is when she's at work, so no issue there. She's my mate too, so all marvellous 🙂

Funnily enough, no.... never... ever... ever.

By Eck it's heavy!!!! Even with the battery out it's heavy! Just heavy heavy heavy. I think my KTM will give it a run for its money in weight department.

Not ridden it yet as we're charging the massive battery. It's the size of a breeze block.

Forks were way too hard so taken a load of pressure out of them, shock isn't too bad. Both feel plush and nice.

My lad was sitting on it, hence the low saddle position.

Overall it's exactly what I expected in terms of build etc but heavier.

We all had a try on it today after getting back from Swinley.

It was certainly interesting that's for sure, the hills just don't exist. Then even coming down it seems to carry it's weight amazingly well and carried speed where none should actually exist. It rolls and rolls so well.

It's still not something that holds any interest to me as a bike to own, I don't actually like the weight from a trail pop perspective, I want poppy, active, exciting, this just steam rollers.

I can't imagine a time I'll ride it again, without getting into an ebike debate, it's not for me at the moment.

Stuck the beast on the scales of truth today, pretty much exactly 25kg it comes in at.
Took front tyre off to tape it up, there must be 1/2 kg in that tube, it's huge!!!!
Doesn't need tape as amazingly, tubeless ready does actually mean tubeless ready.
Sadly I've only got 1 tubeless valve in the spares so I've had to order another pair so I can do the rear.
No wonder it felt hard though, just on 45psi it had in the front, I expect the back to be the same, I'm more used to something around 30. So we'll see how it feels once it's finished.

Interesting. New gen ebikes seem to be close to the 20kg mark so I am about to switch I think. It just becomes a different sport all together. Carry your own lift in effect.

Im pretty sure the only one near 20kg is the new mondraker. From my own experience, the lightest bike ive ever owned (sub 30lb) was also the worst. I way prefer my steamroller 24kg ebike, but coming from a dh background, ive always preferred heavier bikes & their associated riding style.

This years Focus Jam2 9.9, weighing in at 19.15kg, the spesh Levo is around 21kg depending on spec/size

“ive always preferred heavier bikes & their associated riding style.”

Before I got my Levo, every bike I owned was heavier but better and faster than the one before! I frequently ride the Levo unpowered in group rides and the only time the weight is a downside is uphill, and even then it’s not bad at all.

Suspension in general is a whole lot more active on an ebike due to the weight. 😉

It may be active, but it ain't poppy as it's like trying to lift a small planet

I find my Levo poppy and easy enough to move around but I do have the suspension setup how I like it which I imagine makes a big difference. I've also been riding it for 3 years so I'm pretty used to how it rides.

No problem here hoping/ jumping an ebike either.
Heavy to lift over a fence doesn't relate to not being active when ridden.

MAybe it's just initial perception then. Don't really know...

Not convinced i'll actually find out in the next 10 years anyway. As long as it makes her happy, then it's all good 🙂

We had this out in anger today, for the life of me I don't know what you ebike riders see in them.
Sure it cruised uphill. Yeah I get that.
But it's like driving a bulldozer down it! Heavy, slow, cumbersome. Sure they're stable, solid. But damn it's a trail killer. Just really not for me in the slightest, if you like jumping a breeze black, sure, great.

I want to defend the ebike as you know I have two of them and I’m a big fan. I’ve recently gone from a 2 yr old Scott to a new Spec turbo Levo. If we ignore the new motor at 90 miles and it’s latest failure the Spec makes the Scott fell leaden. The Spec is massively more playful and jumps and bounces about in a much more enjoyable way. But and it’s a big but my £1000 bossnut clockwork bike is better if you want fun anywhere you are going downhill. My fitness is improving and I see a future where I prefer to use a normal bike as they are just more fun. This is hard to say as I do love my ebike lol

Mibbe its just a shite bike. I'm sure you get shite ebikes, just like you get shite bikes.

I don't have one, but I've demo'd a few, and they've been bloody awesome, I'd have one in a minute if I had the spare cash.

In the politest possibly way, your riding it as Swinley. A place where you can ride a CX bike round the trails.

Having ridden a few decent ebikes one will absolutely be the next bike I buy. Personal shuttle for big trails, and multiple laps. What’s not to like? I’d suggest improving your skills and speed on a bike, and taking it somewhere decent to ride - then you will come back with a smile on your face, and a flat battery 🙂

Don't think so, sure it's a ladies frame arguably, but the fit is decent on me.... The wife really likes it, but then again, she's never ridden a standard bike in the last 20 years.. I don't think it's a bad bike as such, its just a heavy one..

This type of bike is great for most stuff, i had an ebike for a fortnight (got nicked!) and have to say i loved taking it to places where climbing was a pain before, it changed the whole trail for me, uphills were now part of the ride, rather than the bits that you slogged up to get to the downhill bits. But as you say, i did struggle with the less responsive bike on the downs, it allowed extra speed and forgiveness in certain areas, but drop offs, switchbacks, etc were a bit more of a worry with such a heavy bike for me, i know from youtube there's guys who can smash these things around everything, but their skill level is way beyond mine, or normal folk.

When/if i can afford another one i'll get it without a doubt, they definitely have their place and do so much well, but i do enjoy having the enduro to do the downs, same as the hardtail to just mess about on.

Definitely needed for that 10m of elevation.

Other than the woodwork drops, I’d suggest absolutely you could ride a CX bike there.

As for your other point. Well, let’s see then 🙂

Sure, that's not me... I get that... but i've done exactly the same jumps as him today. He just doesn't take pics of me 🙂

I see a few CX bikes at my local trail centre normally ridden by bearded men, proper cyclists who look permanently miserable and never say hello to an ebiker. They don’t seem to like being passed by anyone especially ebikes but tbh they get little choice.

Couldn't believe how many ebikes there were at the Forest of Dean trail centre today. It honestly felt like analogue bikes were the minority. The times they are a changin'...

Know what you’re saying about the steamroller feel of some ebikes. My nice ‘analogue’ bike was stolen about 3 months back, so with the insurance money I got a Trek ebike and sensible shoes spec analogue bike. The ebike has 20mm more suspension at either end, and it’s effectively an ebike version of Treks Enduro bike.  The analogue bike is a pretty run of the mill trail bike.

Perhaps unsurprising, but I’ve found that on milder trails the analogue bike is more fun downhill, but on the rougher and loose rocky descents in the Dark Peak, the ebike really does impress.  What has surprised me is how relatively easy it is to get the ebike in the air, but (for me anyway), it does seem to need some sort of kicker or edge to launch off - but a few times it’s nearly caught me out with how it flies. Now, I guess this is maybe down to suspension kinematics or something - with a 22kg bike and old bloke on it, I don’t think it’s rider skill! For its weight, my ebike is more poppy than I expected, and if anything, the Specialized Levo I demo’d felt even poppier.

Not being that familiar with ebikes beforehand, I was expecting it to be a complete run away train downhill, but there are quite a few places where the analogue feels quicker.  I’m not on Strava, so don’t know if this is just because there’s less feedback. I think some of it is because I’m above the speed cutoff of the motor when I stick a few cheeky pedal strokes in, and it’s a lot of weight to try and accelerate unaided - whereas on the analogue bike, it just feels way more responsive to the input....y’know like a normal bike!😄

Living near the Peak, and feeling very middle aged, the ebike has opened up rides that I’ve not done for years because the amount of climbing involved. Also found I can ride more often, as I’m not so physically wrecked after an ‘undulating’ ride. If I was just riding trail centres though, I’m not sure an ebike would be my first choice, as I find mine does dull down that type of riding - everyone’s different though eh?!

FoD had a deal on today with half price ebike rental, so guessing that's why so many around, but on a normal day they're pretty prominent as well, it's good to see a lot of folk who wouldn't go near a trail like FoD going out as they have a bit of assist, same with those using the downhill runs, as it has an easyish push up path it's a place where ebikes are pretty good to use.

Great that Mrs weeksy is loving it mate. Going to try and get my partner on the trails this Summer. Nothing extreme though, she's not ridden since being a kid and if she breaks an arm or such it could mean the end of her job. Don't want that on my conscience!

She did baulk at an entry to the Dual Slalom line today, which i thought was 100% fair of her.

This was here doing the little drops... Which considering she's only ridden on the canal in the last few years, i was impressed with 🙂

No offence but you mince around a trail center in the south and think that wobbling down a red trail at a bikepark in south Wales is he height of gnar...
Ebikes are brilliant for riding multiple laps of local tech trails.
Fine if you don't do that but open your eyes a bit more to what other people do.
You never know you might even like it once you get you're head round the fact that mountainbikes aren't all about how fast you can ride while connected to a PC...

What riding should it be used for that I'm not doing then?

I mince round Morzine too, I mince the SDW in a day, I mince the Ridgeway regularly and I've been known to mince XC races too and even had my arse kicked in a road bike race at Thruxton.

As for the rest, that's just quite amusing.
