I was walking through work's motorbike shed, and noticed a revolting, very new looking ebike... surely not 26" wheels??
Cheapest looking shifters I've ever seen... an AKEZ. So got back to the desk and visited their website.
And now I need eyebleach
https://akezebikes.com/products-akez-bikes/

thought I'd share 🙂

Seems to fit the brief for people who need a bit of assist, ride the occasional bumpy towpath but don't really care about wheel sizes, aren't willing to pay five grand and want rack mounts for shopping and luggage.

I'm OK with that - market disruptor kinda bike.

Not the prettiest bikes but they're targeting a price-point sort of customer not a hardened-MTB rider.

More power to their elbow and all that.

It might make the bigger brands reconsider their product offering and their prices - hopefully to the benefit of us all.

Rear wheel motors, a lot kinder to the drivetrain and usually a better feel to the power delivery. The motorbike styled models…. Well, they’re certainly different!

It's also not an eBike - 500W, 25mph and you don't need to pedal. That's a very slow motorbike.

Could get into a bit of trouble if you bought it in ignorance to get into work. Needs MOT, numberplate, insurance and all that kind of thing.

Didn't spot that - not road legal. At 25mph the quality of the brakes becomes somewhat more important too...

I like it. Would love to throw around my local XC loop.

When you said grimness, I thought you meant filthy. The filthiest ebike I've seen belongs to one of our Leeds guys. He's commuted on it daily for the last couple of years in all weathers. It doesn't look like it's been washed in all that time.

£200 Argos bike with a cheap motor attached being retailed for a grand. Wow.

There's someone who lives near us who has a chopper one of those. He hacks along at a fair old pace.

The brakes really aren't good enough for the weight & speed of it.

You people just haven't seen it in the flesh. It's actually not the same as the one on the linked page -It's got some plasticy looking tri-spoke wheels going on.
Like this (but a hardtail) -
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKEZ-Folding-Electric-Bicycle-Grey/dp/B09GV8LNC7/ref=sr_1_19?keywords=akez+electric+bike&qid=1678716737&sprefix=akez%2Caps%2C447&sr=8-19
Come on tell me that one looks "ok"!? 😆

Other than the image being reversed, it looks like something someone would buy to ride to somewhere...

The fat tyred motorbike looking ones are oddly cool. Loop stays (a la. old Yeti ARC's) need to make a comeback.

Oooh

TBF it does have a mount for a number plate, so it's not pretending to be an ebike.

Edit: they should just do away with the bicycle parts.

That 3 spoke bike above reminds me of my old Marin Rock Springs from nearly 20 years ago! 🤣🤣🤣

Straight out of a Chinese factory's catalogue, I recognise some of them. They're filling a gap in the market but anyone importing them needs to be on top of the QC side of things, service/spares etc.
