Thinking of getting a set of haven bars (Carbonium ones) to replace the sunlines i have on atm.
The havens will lose 100g and will also look sweet, but in all honesty, i don't know what the difference would be.
What's the general consensus on carbon bars, are they worth the cash, or should i just put the cash into the beer fund for france?
I've just fitted a set of Haven carbon bars. My main reason for doing so is that I find carbon more comfortable on longer rides.
I ran carbon all last year on another bike but fitted aluminium when I built this bike. The carbon seems to soak up trail buzz much more effectively and somehow seem less harsh on your hands.
Plus I wanted to go wider than the 680 bars I was running and 710 seemed perfect.
I have had a set for a few months now. They look really nice, good width, comfy, buy them. 😀
they scored well in a recent mbr test, although i think the havocs got a higher score due to being wider (you can cut them down but you can't add width to narrow bars)
Would love a pair of these but carbon bars are the one thing i have trouble getting my head round. carbon frames, wheels seatpost, saddle rails all fine but the idea of the bars shattering scares the hell out of me, especially when i seem to pick up scratches all the time.
Hmmm, ok. Maaaaaay think of ordering a set if i can find them for less than £80.

good look with that mate they are quite rare
I'll have a chat to my lbs 😉
waiting on a set myself been ordered 3 weeks now and still nothing
Ragley Carbon "Wiser" riser bars are 720mm wide and sub £80 at CRC???
Similar and cheaper and in stock?
I got some monkeylites really cheap a while back and couldn't tell any difference from the aluminium bars they replaced. Maybe the monkeylites aren't as good as other carbon bars or maybe its just a load of cobblers.
Cobblers! Save for the French beer... 😉
I think carbon bars are worth the cost, they do soak up some of the trail buzz for sure. Noticed the difference over my 7075 alloy bars which were better than some cheap 6061 alloy ones.
A worthy upgrade when funds allow I reckon 🙂

I've had monkeylite XC and DH bars and they are just as comfy but seem tougher than some other carbon bars. Definitely more comfortable than any alu bars I've had anyway.
Paid £88 for the Race Face Sixc bar I have on my FS bike now and it hurt a bit to stump up that much cash. I usually try to catch them in the sale.
Surely tyre volume/pressure and the amount/type of rubber on the grips would be a bigger factor in reducing vibrations to the hands rather than whether you have carbon bars or not?
I've never been able to feel any difference between carbon and quality alu bars, except when taking them off the bike and going **** me! my monkeylites weigh about half as much as my old havocs!
Haven is supposed to be as strong as the old monkeylite dh, which in turn was supposed to be stronger than any equivalent alu bar. Certainly can't fault mine, I'd like to upgrade to Havens just because I'm a tart but the old ones are tough as old boots and still a good weight
