[#11067732]

Had my easiest tubeless set up ever tonight and i thought it was going to be a right b**ch to do!

Ive set up lots of wheels tubeless in the past, from ghetto set ups to full on kits, most have worked first time, some have been a pain, even been doing them for a local bike shop

So tonight i had DT Swiss EX1501 wheel, pre taped by DT Swiss and i had a Maxxis Aggasi 29 x 2.5WT tyre with downhill casing

Thought this is going to be a pain so got the soapy spray bottle ready, thought id try without the soapy water first, first bead went on using just my hands, no real force needed, looked at the tyre and because of the DH casing helping to keep the shape of the tyre i decided not to fit a tube overnight to help the tyre take its shape before removing it to add sealant

So i started on the 2nd bead, all the way round it just slipped on and even the last bit needed no force using just my fingers, this really did surprise me as Ive fitted Maxxis DHR2 with Double Down casings before and they were a pain to do

So tyre is all fitted with no issues or dramas, now to add sealant, added some Muc off sealant through the valve (core removed) no mess what so ever, not even a dribble!!

Next was to inflate, now Ive got a compressor with a 50 litre tank so i knew it would go up, but i was expecting a little fight and some sealant loss/spray

Nope it went straight up with no sealant showing anywhere, tyre is nice and true, properly seated, gave the wheel a good few spins, tilting it side to side and making sure the sealant got everywhere within the tyre

Still no sealant leaks, tyre is currently still holding pressure, we see in the morning if it still has pressure, if so that's the easiest tubeless wheel Ive ever done

Road tubeless is even easier. For 3 different bikes, all I’ve needed is a track pump and my thumbs.

You’ve done well. I run ex1501’s and they’re great normally with folders but bugger me if I can get a dh tyre on myself. Its an lbs job normally.

Ha ha ... try Mavic UST sometime. You can do it with one hand. Bloody love it.

Tyre and rim combo I assume? As I snapped several tyre levers trying to mount schwalbe Tyres to a UST rim...

Setting up a new Specialised Diverge tubeless last week - popped out the inner tube, installed valve on the pre-taped rims and they seated and sealed with no problems. Finished the rest of the build and was removing the cling-film wrap on handlebars when the front tyre 'popped' spraying me and the workshop with sealant! Apparent they don't see the need to fit tubeless tyres on a £2.2k bike - just the cheap wired ones!

Morning update

Tyre is still inflated, no pressure loss, no signs of sealant leak

Why cant every tubeless conversion be this easy!!!!

Bontrager XR tyres on Hope rims = easy peasy. Vittoria Mezcal on Stans rim was also easy.

I must be lucky because I've always used a regular floor pump and they've always gone up first time!

Mavic Yksion on Open Pro Rim.

Thumbs and floor pump operated lazily with one hand only. Done last Saturday, still holding pressure without noticeable loss despite not used.

Cheers!
I.

Just stuck a bonty tyre on DT XR391 rim. Went up silently first time with a track pump, bead didn't have to snap onto the rim, not even a trace of sealant, and it is holding pressure perfectly, even before I've ridden it.

I'm still in a state of shock. Was expecting the usual rigmarole of finding it all sad and deflated in the garage a couple of times.

Road tubeless is even easier. For 3 different bikes, all I’ve needed is a track pump and my thumbs.

Seems to vary depending on which "standard" anyone is following.

Hutchinson tyres on shimano rims, they were basically airtight even before pumping them up and sit on the bead shelf nicely.

Schwalbe TLE on Stans Alpha rims,
With a compressor - nope
With a compressor, with valve core removed - nope
With a compressor, with valve core removed, with inflator head removed and the compressor hose ziptied onto the vavle stem - still took most of the tank and a fair bit of squashing/shaking. And they still fall off the bead shelf when deflated.

Apparently the newest schwalbe tyres are yet another new road tubeless standard, dunno if that's any better.

I have DT swiss R32 road wheels, and they have been horrible to set up tubeless with schwlabe, specialized tyres, and never stay seated of pressure drops. MTB generally need airshot but no big deal so far on stan's flow. Someone surely needs to invent a new valve system for tubeless?? Have tried Milkit but made it even harder to initially inflate, choked up with latex.Hopefully standards will tighten up /align but it does feel like a bonus when every thing works perfectly!

TBH I'd just be happy if they could all use the same ruler when measuring the tyres.

Hutchinson 25mm tyes measure 26mm, and fit in my frame with mudguards, I can live with that,

Schwalbe 25mm are scraping the inside of the brake calipers!

Which tubeless rhymes do you use? I like the idea of boobless.

DT swiss rims are generally just ace, mine are shod in MSC tyres and it's just a track pump job, no levers either.
