Ok, wear headphones while you're cycling if you really have to - though why you would want to block out the lovely noise tyres make as they scurf the dirt, or the birds having a sing is beyond me.
But, to have the music so loud that I ride behind you for 200 metres, coughing, and saying 'excuse me', until I realise you've got earbuds in. Then me saying/shouting 'excuse me' in increasingly loud tones, until I get annoyed and yell OY! at the top of my voice. Causing you to jump and nearly crash your bike, and then give me evils as I smile and wave as I pass you. Numpty 😆

I used to always listen to music, but I also used to always have a look around me regularly to see what was going on, there is no excuse not too.

You're either making an (unfunny) joke, or are being a dick. Of course I don't shout at deaf people! Or even people who slow me down.
But if we're on a piece of singletrack and you're pootling along listening to you choons at full blast, at some point I'm going to get annoyed doing the polite cough. The point is he had it on so loud that he couldn't here sh*t.
On a trail its usual just one ear so I can hear any issues with the bike as well
On the road both in and loud I'm used to riding a motorbike on the road with loud pipes so used to doing regular shoulder checks
I can't imagine riding with earphones - I get the cables caught up when walking.
Plus I find I end up using all my senses when riding - hearing, sight, feel etc.
Maybe not smell - unless I've ridden in dog muck.
Bluetooth headphones are the answer to tangled cables. Dance tunes make me ride faster so I don't usually get people riding and shouting behind me (I think) 😉
Usually pop one ear off if there are people around or on the road.
