At some point next year I might get back to some long distance riding so in an idle moment did some WW calculations on Eagle XX1 vs 2x10 for my 'Fish.

Assuming RF Next SL G4 cranks - 1x for the Eagle, 2x for the 2x10

Eagle XX1 XTR M980

Cassette 360 272
R mech 265 174
R Shifter 124 117
F mech 0 132
F Shifter 0 107
1x SL G4 425 540

Total 1164 1342

Diff -188g

The eagle eyed (ha) will notice no chain. I can't find an M980 chain weight and anyhow it's length dependant. It may be that the 2x runs a longer heavier chain and a DT240S XD driver is 10g lighter than Shimano so lets say in the real world the difference is 200g

As I was doing it I also looked at the other groupset weights not including chains or cranks.

Eagle XX1 - 749
Eagle X01 - 754
XX1 11sp - 616
XTR M9000 - 668+10g freehub
XTR 10sp - 563+10g freehub

The conclusions I take from this is I'm not buying Eagle because I can live with 200g and don't need the 'benefits' of 1x on that bike, that XX1 11sp is an amazing balance of range and weight and that if you have the legs for it XTR 1x10 (or some hybrid thereof)isn't such a bad place to be.

Unless you need to pedal at speeds ranging greater than 1mph and +30mph you dont need 2x anything. Going 1x was the best upgrade ive done in years.
