What are we looking at here, a very bent b-screw? Should be easy enough to replace if that's all it is?

I’ve managed to cut it out. Trying to fit a brand new gx Eagle rear mech. Wound on a bit of b screw tension. It Felt a bit funny, but I ignored it and wound a bit more on. It bent. Molegrips probably not the best idea at that point but hey ho. Result is the bent b screw that has also chewed up the b screw stop. Hmmph

I honestly don’t know how it happened. Never had any difficulty setting up gears before, and certainly not what you’d normally call ham fisted. My flabber is gasted

I have a sram gx 2.1 10 speed mech that has serious b screw issues. Its in a plastic sleeve and just moves off target all the time. I have put a nut either side of it which helps but its basically shit design.

My sympathy for you evaporated at this point.

Some people are just not mechanically sympathetic. I assume you mean you are fuming with yourself?

What did you expect Molegrips to do differently from anyone else?

I thought I could bend the screw straight to remove it, but it’s made of actual cheese and it all went horribly wrong from there. I never normally deploy the grips. I’ve managed to put a new b screw in, but try as I might I can’t get the b screw right. Either rubs in the top or bottom, or doesn’t change gear at all.....

Not sure if there's a specific Eagle variant on the kit but this repair kit is basically your way back at this point I think. Can't link it due to STW forum being crap at hyperlinks, but search Amazon for "SRAM B-Bolt and Limit Screw Kit for Rear Derailleur XX1, 11.7518.014.000". It's £21.99 right now.

While Scienceofficer is possibly being a bit harsh, he's right. It went wrong when it felt a bit funny and you carried on. I've broken many things over the years, and finally learned to recognise the moment that you should stop and take a very close look at why it doesn't feel right...

Edit: took so long trying to link part... Maybe you don't need the parts if you've got a B screw back in... You've got the little red template thing? Never fitted Eagle personally but I gather it's very helpful for getting the mech set up.

It's all fixed and running a treat now. No idea how I ballsed it up so badly. You know when you're knackered but there's shiny kit to fit, and you're all excited, and there's a ride planned at the weekend and you start something that you really should have left? Yeah that basically.

That’s pretty much what led to my last panicky trip to a bike shop to check I hadn’t threaded the B.B. shell on my new frame... 😀

I was cursing them, despite my hand fistedness on this occasion. I've never had this happen with Shimano..

Out of interest, why does a new SRAM mech have Avid stamped on it (I know they own them)?
Is that an aftermarket addition for routing the cable?

It is integrated, but it used to be a stand-alone addition named "Avid Rollamajig". Probably patent "stuffs"...

Mine says the same. Avid is just old branding and maybe they have been using up stock, although the mechs have been SRAM branded for years, long before the cable pulley thing.

edit: as @otsdr says, maybe patent thing.

You probably wanna back that off half a turn. 😆

Been there, done that

I did try that first before the grips came out.
