My dad has expressed an interest in an E-Bike and I'm totally clueless on them so thought I'd ask the hive mind.

He's 74 and currently getting out and about for rides up to 40 miles on his road bike but he's starting to struggle a bit on hills and also wants to extend his range. He'll mostly be riding on the road but maybe the odd wee bit of smooth gravel. Budget is about £2000.

Any suggestions?

These always looked tidy, and you can remove the battery/motor to run it like a normal bike.

Add on kit to his existing Bike?

I really like the tongsheng bb mount kit I have. £700 from a UK supplier with a big battery

Is the £2000 budget realistic?

Orbea Gain can be had for £2k. There's a hybrid version of the Boardman which is a few hundred cheaper I think. Ribble and Focus Paralane are more like £3k.

It needs the torque sensor adjusting ( easy to do from the menues) to make it feel powerful and to give a lot of boost with little input. A month on and several hudred miles in I am still impressed

My 80 yr old Dad has got the flat bar Orbea Gain. Health problems have meant he hasn’t used it too much recently. However he’s done 30 miles on it in the past and really enjoyed it + used it more recently despite not having much strength.

He really likes the light weight of it so he can lift it on to the back of the car.

He’s a stubborn old fool too, and it doesn’t look like an ebike which would be a disaster for him.
