Ok so the strip of metal from the cells to the fuse and circuit board rusted through. I've joined it up with some aluminium foil and it works fine. So I know what the issue is. Is it a good enough fix? If I tape it up will it work?
Should I not even risk it and solder it when I can borrow an iron?

Ok ok. I apologise trout. Perhaps it was a bit harsh. It was meant in jest. Cheers for the suggestion to solder.

However, the strip of metal is slim. About as slim as a fold of tin foil. what metal will the original strip be? And would an aluminium strip of some sort do the job? Maybe not foil but something similar?

Edit: don't think it warranted the last comment though.

No Offence taken Pook it was as trail rat said .
I only had you best health at heart

you cant solder aluminium so it will be some very cheap recycled steel

there will be a lot of those tabs rusting away soon
