My 1200 lumen DX light died on me this morning. If I plug it in The red light on the lamp lights up so I have ruled out the battery. Looking inside it there is a copper wire that is wound round a little doughnut shaped shaped thing. The wire is only attached at one end. Is this normal.?

there was a thread a while back with shots of the internals.. will see if I can locate it, or can anyone else remember where it is?

The doughnut shaped thing is an inductor. It should have both ends attached.

The doughnut shaped thing is an inductor, and its correct operation (i.e. being connected at both ends) is vital to the correct working of the LED driver board.
