I bought these recently:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/t6-assault-crown-waterproof-xml-t6-3-mode-1200-lumen-white-led-bike-light-with-battery-pack-set-82508#open%20full%20view

and I'm slightly chagrined to find that there is now a dodgy connection at the DC plug on the light head side. You can see the connector in one of the pics at the left.

Frankly I can't be arsed to return them and hope to be able to bodge some kind of repair: I've found some replacement plugs on RS but is replacing them a PITA? Any solder monkeys have any advice?

Not sure about solder monkeys but there's quite a few light experts on here so someone can prob help you out.. Trout being the first name that comes to mind amongst many.

Same thing has happened to mine. I'd be interested to know what connector you use as I'd like to do the same.

I'd return them. In my experience DX's returns service is fine, & the couple of times I have used it they have despatched the replacements as soon as I emailed proof of posting this end. And don't they ship from a UK warehouse now...

One other thing, I have the same light & the connector is quite stiff. Is it pushed fully in, because I thought mine was dodgy but I'd just not pushed it in enough. It should click when it goes in...

Yeah, I was fooled initially by the stiff connector but it's definitely pushed all the way in.

Omninous that you've had to use the replacement service "a couple of times". Although I wasn't expecting much from a £30 light, I'd hoped that it might at least last the winter..

Couple as in twice...once for a torch that my son left switched on hi - face down on a work surface; & once for an 18650 cell that lost its charge after a few days. On the whole the kit has been fine, likewise the half dozen that friends have had. I'll reserve judgement on the latest light though...
We have a couple of electronics boffins & some pretty serious kit at work if you get no joy. I could ask them to take a look... 🙂

I managed to find the connectors that Hope used to use a few years back. They were very good, but the rep I spoke to said its usually the quality of the assembly that makes these things fail.

+1 on initially thinking the connection was duff. But when I pressed the two ends together with more force, they "clicked" into place, does yours do that ?

DX returns process is better than a lot of UK retailers. Really surprised me, especially since the very first step was a sod, but after that it was excellent (I dropped a torch down 3 flights of stairs and broke the lens, it took about 7 days to get a replacement)

J - I have a spare inline connector which should work (got 3 of them for another project) I also have a soldering iron & some solder so we could try a couple of different fixes if you want to come down to the shed one evening for a fettle?
