I'm sure there was a thread on this in the ast 6 months but can't find it. I'm looking at improving the light and the only way I can see it is either changing to an ORANGE PEELreflector or use a WIDE ANGLE LENS. The latter only changes the 10degree spot on the DX light to a 10x20. Any idea how this compares with an orange peel? The lens is a cheaper option but may not necessarily be the best option.

What are your thoughts? Also any idea on a cheaper alternative for the orange peel refelctor?

I have an XML set up with the wide angle lens on the bars and its all I could ever ask for~ the beam gives a nice flood into the distance, whilst leaving plenty of light in the foreground should anything escape your initial glance.

Managed some DH trails with it this evening, 5ft drop n all.

I'm not totally sold on the wide angle lens, I think it gives away some of the advantage of the XML (stupidly bright spot) without really fixing the problem of the high contrast (ie, the flood is decently bright, but the spot is bright enough to overwhelm it). I think on balance I prefer the standard beam.

I don't think the Magicshine XML makes a particularily good solo light in either form though, prefer the beam pattern of the P7. But as a head light it's very good.
