I am having this problem, I'm 5,10 and have borrowed a medium 5spot this weekend and it feels good.
I would like to try a large before making a decision.

i use a 50mm stem, but do like a compact feel rather than stretched out.

Me too. 5ft 10 here and cramped on a medium hustler. Good on a medium though.

I got mine without a test ride!
Happy with the size, but haven't tried a large.
70mm stem.

Maybe Nick Maybe...

hmm.. I'm 5'10 and that appears to be the cut off. My previous Spot was a large and I'll go and throw me leg over Izakimak's Large this week see how it feels.

Keep em coming lads... Vortex, you need not reply ๐Ÿ˜›

5'10" - 5'11" is a real problem height on the DW 5-Spot. I'm right at that height and took Dave Turner's advice and went with the large, whilst my mate who is the same height went with a medium. We ended up with the controls in pretty much the same place, but the medium always felt much more nimble and chuckable. A big element of this is that the large has quite a lot longer head tube compared to the medium. I never really got on with the large so ended up selling it and getting a Mojo HD - not sure I'd done it if I'd gone with the medium.

Goes to show the value of a test-ride for both sizes - I test-rode the medium and wasn't quite sure, hence asking DT's advice. It's difficult to find a large to demo but wish I'd persevered!

The DW is a bit shorter than the HL and TNT models, plus the top tube is even lower. The head tube is still pretty big, but they're semi integrated now aren't they?

5'10.5 - Large DW 2009, not too large to feel cumbersome. Agree with the headtube comment though.

5'10" on a good day- ride a large with 70mm stem and a lot of post sticking out. Medium would have been waay too small for me (Quite 'leggy' and 'army').

In Marple if you wanted to try one for size.

6ft near as dammit. Gave my large it's (very wet) shake down ride tonight.
Running fox 36s initially at 160 with the intention to reduce them to 150 or even 140. It climbed so well with no wander that I'll leave them as they are. I don't want to lower the front end either, if anything I'd like it a little slacker.
The bike is seriously efficient, looking down at the shock when climbing it wasn't moving at all and just went quietly forward without any fuss when pedalled. One thing, my new fox kashima forks felt terrible. I've had the exact same forks before and they were brilliant but these gave me arm pump and had no small bump compliance at all. I lowered the pressure as far as I dared and ran no comp dampening with no joy. I'm hoping they just need to bed in. I was getting knocked off lines all over the place which I really hope isn't a trait of the frame!!! Day off so afan tomorrow, I'll see how it gets on there!
Could any riders let me know they're weight and what pressure they are running in the rp23 please. I found myself running ~190, which seems high going by the recommendation on the turner site for a 14,7st bloke.

I'm the same weight and have mine set to 180 which gives me exactly 15mm sag as per the correct setup. It rides really well at this (I've gone as high as 260/10mm & as low as 100/25mm)..........almost as if Dave Turner knows a thing or two!!!!!

I have to be honest and say I cant rememeber the last time i checked the shock air pressure! I do often notice the o ring for travel indidcation is right off the shock shaf t so it could probabaly do with a bit more in. Still rides beautifully though. Really nice suple feel doesnt blow through the travel climbs well without bob and still active. Ticks all the boxes for me!
Stick some pics up when you get your new bike.

Backhander, i set mine up as the turner site says, 15mm of sag 3 clicks on the rebound, i found it to be just right, i had tried more sag before but i kept catching the cranks on rocks, i counldn't tell what the equivelent preesure is in my case cause my shock pump gauge is a bit ropey so i just used a tape measure until it was right.

@backhander
rp23 didn't work for me, (13.5 st) evan after doing the dgc shim mod. you may want to consider a lv sleeve for the rp23 instead of the hv one. the rp23 hv doesn't seem to work for a lot of people over about 12 st. **** knows why turner kept speccing it, evan though it was a common complaint? i ended up getting a coil shock.

bike holds a line through the chunk/roots very well. i use a bos deville, maybe your 36 just needs to brake in a little.

NorthCountryBoy how much do you weigh?

one of my biggest complaints about the rp23, was that with the correct sag the shock would blow through its travel. dgc mod helped but it still wasn't great.

Pastcaring i found that putting the recommended amount of sag in stopped it blowing through its travel, even 1-2mm more sag made a huge difference to how much more travel it would go through even on small bumps and roots.

mine was set up with 15mm of sag, iirc turner recommend 17mm? i would use 90% of the travel getting rad dropping off a curb...

Donate the money you would spend on the road bike to the charity - then you don't need one ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hmm, I'm running around 190 at the moment. Today's afan trip tells me I can get away with a little less which seems to go along with splodges advice. I started to get a good feel for the bike today and although it'll take a little getting used to, I think I've made a very wise choice.
I understand that the rp23 comes with the dcg mod as standard on the 2011 models and I don't believe it's a HV can.
I'll give it some time and then think about a coil.
Still can't get this fork right though. I never usually suffer arm pump but did today even running the fork well below the recommended pressure. I ended up at 60lbs with zero comp damp. I'm a bit pissed off with it tbh.
Think I'll drop mojo a line. The bikes filthy right now so I'll get some pics put up as soon as I can.
I have a week in the gower coming up ๐Ÿ˜€

yes, 2011 has a factory mod as standard. afaik it still has a hv can?

the turner forum is very helpful if you have any problems... just don't upset the homers ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

had mine for a year and i'm very happy with it. using a offset shock bush at the moment. HA 67* bb 13.8/9
will try an offset head set headset at some point...

I weigh 80 kg (12 stone) never had a problem with the RP 23 running as low as 160 psi useing all the travel, not affraid to let it hit the internal bump stop! Never feels harsh or bottomed out. Run some big ol tyres fairly soft too, that probably helps a bit.
