Hiya Chaps,
Ive got a slack spring thats not giving enough chain tension, at the frame mounting bolt of the rear mech.
I see there is a circlip inside, anyone ever had one apart, sucessfully repaired ?? before I get myself in trouble ? Cheers.

I took my XTR apart and found the spring was set on the loose setting.
There will be another hole to fit the spring and take up the slack.
Basically it is inside the section that mounts the hanger.
Remove the jockey wheels and remove one of the cages.
Then unscrew the rest-see shimano tech or Park tools website.
Warning-it is very easy to damage the screw thread and rubber seals.
Usually the bolt is firm.
But pack with grease-the spring just needs corrosion proofing once in a million days...
It can be very tricky to put it back together. Use nose pliars and make sure sure you keep it away from your eyes.
Unless you are a great mechanic-get your LBS to do it or be very careful. I reckon if you know how to dismantle your bike and rebuild etc you'll be fine but the pics on park website make it look easier than it is.
Workshop desk or vice and free hand allen keys helps.
You'll find that these mechs are crappily put together and sealed poorly and wonder why you paid so much but it will hold any chain slack easily now.
Nice one Zaskar ( one of my hareem is a '96 LE ! )
Thanks for taking the time, Ill give it a tweek.
Cheers
