I'll be accompanying my girlfriend up to Dunkeld on Saturday, but will have most of the day to myself, so can anyone recommend some of the legendary riding i've heard of (but never found) in the area?
I've done the main loop up and around Loch Ordie and the two lochs more northerly than that, but would prefer some slightly more challenging woodland stuff, although i'll be avoiding the DH course!
Anyone else riding there on saturday?
cheers!
working sat but I have a couple of routes around dunkeld from mags on pdf files if you want to email me
Hmm, also interested in this. Will be up there Saturday too, but just doing the Queen's Road route you mentioned.
How much time have you got?
If you have 4 hours to spare, I'd recommend the drive to Pitlochry to do this route.
It's got some very good downhills on it, particularly if you add on the Ben Vrackie option...
The STW route data is wrong - it overestimates the distance but underestimates the height gain.
thanks guys, i hate to dent my MTB credentials (if i had any ๐ ) but i've spotted an awfully tasty looking 80 mile road loop in the area, although riding from dunkeld to pitlochry and doing stuartie_c's loop might be an option...
Couple of good loops in Kenny Wilson's book -
Ride up the southern flank of Birnam Hill, short carry up the wooden steps of death then ride accross the top as an out and back. The descent is marvellous.
Could then head across to the Cally car Park and follow the track up which takes you clockwise round the hill. Just follow your nose. Lots of nice stuff in there but be careful of the odd bit of exposure. I was riding there last Sunday and it was marvellous. You could also nip up to the Loch of the Loewes and follow the trail which heads round the southern edge of the golf course. The final woodland descent is fantastic.
Others to consider - Duechary Hill - good climb, great views from the summit. Glen Garr - best done as an out and back via The Hermitage in my opinion. The DH trail off the back of the main competition trail. the riverbank which takes you to the A9 road bridge. Cross the bridge and return on the other side of the river.
Loads to do up there. All of it excellent.
Cheers

Hmm, sounds like a nice day of bits'n'pieces Sanny!
In the name of bedding in my new (happy happy) Rebas maybe i'll try this instead.
Kit, if you want an extra hanger on I'll be in Dunkeld from 8:30, always enjoy meeting new riders!
