There I was minding my own business having a lovely ride in the cold/sun when a bit of surface water turned out to be black ice. Ouch! Doing about 25mph downhill one minute, sliding down said hill watching my bike skid alongside me seconds later.

Mech hanger bashed in, mech mangled, right pedal mangled and brifters scratched to buggery. That was an expensive ride. I'm alright though and it was a fabulous ride ๐Ÿ™‚

I was going to post about this very same topic this morning. Riding the road bike when the temperature hovers around freezing scares the bejeesus out of me. I'm only too happy to risk coming off my mtb but on the road? No thanks! I went for a run instead. Which was dull. ๐Ÿ˜

Glad to hear you're okay.

Lots of ice around on our club ride this morning, really taking it say at times.

It was certainly scary out there this morning, I avoided hitting the deck, glad you're OK

When the tyres stop making any noise, it's time to be wary

I had a sore one on ice a few years ago. I now don't ride the road if under 3 deg - bit of a pussy, but falling on road always seems so much sorer than when mtb'ing.

Same thing happened to me this morning , at the top of a climb hit sheet ice and the back wheel washed out. No damage done as landed on my elbow and hip and was probably only doing about 9 mph. I was going to stay out for 40 miles but ended up heading home after 22 as I thought I'd cut my losses before I ended up haveing a sore one.
Went back out this afternoon for a local mtb loop with the dog.

Very nearly done the same this morning. Decided to pick up a bit of speed at the bottom of a dubious looking descent to get a good start on the very steep climb that follows. Back wheel slipped out about 45 degrees and I thought that was it. Then gripped again.

I had a bad one a couple if weekends ago, a frozen rut of ice, I didnt stand a chance. It might have been less painful jumping knees first off a wall. Still not as bad as a seat post snapping on a road night right.

Good to hear you survived to tell us the details. ๐Ÿ˜‰
