My last two bikes have both been 36 22 chain rings and 9speed, my new bike is 38 24T 10speed, i absoloutley abhor using the granny, and i usually ride a lot of hills, i'm going to be using the granny a lot i think, what would be the equivalant gear selection with the bigger ring, for say the 36 in 1st 2nd gear on a sustained hill, caveat i haven't ridden this beast yet.

Depends on the cassette ratios too - what's the largest rear on each?

If you hate the inner ring so much why not go 1x10 with a 32t or something?

Well i am odd, it's a singlespeed mindset, i like pushing a bigger gear and working hard, it gets easier, there are climbs that i bench mark, wow i can climb that on the middle ring, dumb i know, i'm sure it is far more efficient using the granny and less likely to have the chain running on smallest and large ring/cog.

PS it will cost me, it was hard enough justifying a new bike!.

try using a calculator like this one

to work out your old and new equivalent front / back

(or just ride and not worry about it too much :D)
