[Closed] DT Swiss EXC 150 - Is This Normal?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask for an advice. Yesterday I met someone to buy a virtually brand new, unridden DT Swiss EXC 150 forks, white 15QR with black uppers. Supposedly, taken off a shop floor bike and never ridden.

All's nice, but on compression the forks have a sound - sort of knocking, noticeable enough. This depends on the compression adjust - when fully closed, the sound disappears, when you start opening it, it comes back again.

All adjustments seem to work as they should but this sound makes me suspicious. May it be that it's just not broken in, or they all do this? I quite like the forks but I want a trouble free usage, not running around and trying to sort it down the line.

There's a cosmetic 'issue' as well - the red rebound knob on the top of the damper leg was for some reason polished and now it's not red any more. The seller was not able to say why exactly it was done - sort of 'to better match the bike it was on' which sounds weird to me.

Any thoughts and advice would be more than welcome. I did not buy it but still thinking. The price is OKish but not too low - I would definitely loose on it a bit if I wanted to sell it later.

Correction: The exact model is EXM 150, 2012/13 model year, not EXC.

Cant remember my DT forks having a knock (some FOX ones I had did, Rebound apparently) but as for the red rebound knob, the red doesn't stay on long although if it has come off the forks wont be virtually new and un-ridden. Mine came off but that was due to riding and using the button/knob.

It is possible though that it could have belonged to someone with OCD that wanted it polished. Is there any red on it at all?

Its only the top of the knob thats silver. I think its possible to say it was polished, not used. Other surfaces are red.

It could have been scratched or smth like this. But the knock worries me a little.

Thread resurrection...

I have the same forks and have knocking. They have had about 25hours riding so don't think its a bedding in issue.

Read on mtbr something about oil level?
