Got some DT 4.2 rims on a set of Hope hoops.Have noticed on the back wheel the black paint is bubbling in places, especially around spoke holes. One part has flaked off and there is a white powder coming off the surface,a kind of corrosion? Anyone else had this? The wheels are only 1 year and a half old.Might have a word with Hope to see what they say.
Thanx Max

the white powder will be corrosion, however aluminium self seals when it corrodes so this *should* not undermine the material. I've had a set of 5.1s for a year and a half and have not noticed this.

worth a word with Hope. Without seeing it it's not possible to say if it's just aesthetic damage or not but I expect so. Still; shouldn't happen really.

I have the same issue on some 4.1's. Not really that concerned I just keep an eye on them to see if they get any worse.

A drop of Purple Extreme around each nipple on new wheels seems to stop that.

I must stress this is on the rims themselves not the eyelets or nipples. It seems to spread from the nipple area though. And there is a area on the sidewall that has bubbled and flaked off a bit.
Thanx Max

Yes, I've had the same on some 4.1's.

Sort of a pickling of the anodizing.

Sounds like a batch that got pulled out of the anodising bath too soon.
