Has anyone fitted the quicker engaging DT ratchet kit to a 240s hub? I think its this:

I'm just wondering how easy it is to fit for someone with 'basic' mechanical skills? Or instead is it a job for the local bike shop?

Cheers

It would take about 2 minutes with no tools (assuming it's a qr hub - don't know about 12mm) - quite simply pull the cassette away from the wheel (still on free-hub and can be quite stiff) and swap the old star ratchet for the new one! Don't lose the springs!

I've done it. You literally have to pull the axle end cap off, then the freehub body then swap the ratchets and add a bit of grease. It can normally be done by hand, although sometimes it can be a little stiff. The easiest way IMO is to leave the cassette on and the qr in (but quit loose). Then lay the wheel on the ground with the drive side facing up. Stand on the tyre and pull up on the cassette. Normally that will break the seal. If that doesn't work you probably will need to use an axle vice.

Cassette off.
Pull end cap off.
Swap ratchets and springs.
Total time....about 3 minutes.
However....are you swapping to the 'superlight' kit (-10g!) for the faster pick up? I would'nt bother tbh, you'll not notice the difference.Just buy this for half the price. And you get the proper grease.Using pretty much anything else results in the rings sticking together and not disengaging.

Thanks all - its on a new hub so that thankfully sounds like an easy job.

Rorschach - I'm not fussed at all about making it lighter, I'd just like faster engagement, so you may well be onto something here! Are you sure its the quicker engagement ratchets though? I see no mention of it saying the engagement is better

Very easy.

As above but you don't even need to take the cassette off. Definitely an improvement over the 18t engagement. Cheaper here though:

You can do it with the cassette on.
Pull the cassette and the end cap and freehub will come off. Go easy so you can see the order of assembly.
Replace 16 star with 32 star and re assemble.
Cassette/freehub is home when end cap locates onto axle.
Simples

With the 32 tooth stars... DO NOT use heavy grease... use the lightest thinnest stuff you can find!
You only have 1/2 the contact height of the 16 version so thick grease can prevent full tooth to tooth contact and issues.

I use wet chain lube in my DT hubs - some have the fast pick up ratchets and some the standard ones. Works better IME than the proper grease which tends to turn waxy over time.
